Today we’d like to introduce you to Gemini Shizzy.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I was born in Atlanta, Georgia and raised in Harrisburg, Pa. I began writing music at the age of 10 years old with my neighborhood friends as just something to do, and I loved R&B music at an early age. Then, I got into rap music through my early teenage years and really found a secret passion for it, which I never told anyone about. My musical experience also led from me being a young drummer. I played the drums since I was 11 years old. Fast forward to high school, I was in the band all four years, and my music instructor used to let us create songs in exchange for grades, and that’s when I really began creating magic in the studio, and I knew this was what I wanted to do with my life. In 12th grade, I moved back to Atlanta in 2011 to finish high school and begin my journey as a rap artist, and I went to college for about 2 1/2 years and dropped out in 2014 and never looked back.
Please tell us about your art.
I create music for the women all over the world without a voice or platform. I tell stories about my life, and I try to make them as vulnerable as possible to make them relatable to all different types of women. I want everyone to take the passion and honesty home after they listen to my song. I hope to inspire people to know that it’s okay to be yourself and life is short, make the most out of your story.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
Success to me is like the results of my hard work and the results that I desire to get from the universe from me doing what I love. It can sometimes be the smallest thing or the hardest obstacle for me. I feel like patience and perseverance is the keys to my success today.
