Meet George Dorsey of Gen-X Muscle in Grayson

Today we’d like to introduce you to George Dorsey.

George, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve been a highly competitive athlete for most of my life. I played tennis in high school, Division I football in college and am a professional athlete in the IFBB Pro League. Because of my competitive nature, I’ve always tried to find natural methods and supplements to improve my athletic performance. As a natural athlete, I found through research and through trial and error that certain supplements containing specific natural ingredients helped to improve my performance. However, as I aged, I found that the supplements that I took when I was twenty no longer gave me the competitive edge that I once had. My body was changing. Still having my competitive nature, I wanted to continue my to find ways to maintain and improve my performance by addressing the physiological changes that we go through as we age. This is why I created Gen-X Muscle. At Gen-X Muscle, we custom design nutritional products which are aimed at helping aging populations counter the deteriorating effects of age-related muscle loss, reduced bone density, reduced blood flow, vitamin D deficiency, protein deficiency, as well as other related issues.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been an interesting road, to say the least. I found that as a new brand in a crowded field of other supplement companies with big budgets, you really have to find ways to stand out amongst the crowed. I also find that as a minority business owner in an industry that is overwhelmingly non-minority, people, tend to be more skeptical about my products, even though our products are the same quality if not a better quality than most brands you’ll find at Vitamin Shoppe or GNC. I also learned early that positioning our company as a “black-owned” company also brings with it it’s own set of challenges. Having been in the health and fitness industry for over 30 years, I find that a certain percentage of my customer base tends to be behind on the latest technology and newest nutritional supplements, making education an important extension of our business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Gen-X Muscle – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
While some well-known supplement companies take chances by selling products which contain illegal substances/ingredients in their products, we ensure that we produce very high-quality products which contain no illegal substances. We get our products tested by a third party for over 470 illegal or banned substances. We also don’t create products which have proprietary blends so that the consumer can determine what’s actually in our products.

As we age, certain physiological events take place. For example, our blood flow slows, we lose a certain amount of muscle fiber each decade after hitting the ripe old age of 30, and its harder to lose body fat. Additionally, Vitamin D deficiency, along with protein deficiency are prevalent in minority communities as well as other communities as a whole. We design our products to address some of these issues, whereas other companies tend to focus on a much younger clientele. As an add on, we also try to provide opportunities for personal trainers, gyms, and individuals by offering an affiliate program which allows these individuals and entities to create an additional income stream.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We’ve partnered with Trulife Distribution located in Florida, to help us to get in front of big-name companies like Vitamin Shoppe, GNC, Albertson’s and other very well known big named companies. We also plan on increasing our distribution channels via online ecommerce market places. We’ve already gotten ourselves on Amazon and are currently working with a new company called CartSquad (Subsidiary of TruLife Distribution) to get us on Walmart.com, Ratuken, TopHatter and other ecommerce sites.

We plan on bringing on new products as well. We also believe in community involvement and social awareness. We work with local businesses and a local children’s shelter to ensure we give back to the community.
