Meet Geri Alicea of Womb Prep in Fairburn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Geri Alicea.

Geri, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband and I began dating in 2006 and later married in 2012 – but we have never been pregnant. Early in our marriage I went through a phase of depression because I wasn’t getting pregnant. I felt ashamed, alone and guilty. After a while I got tired of feeling depressed all the time and decided to study women in the Bible who dealt with the same thing. I didn’t want to study these women by myself so I posted on Facebook and got some other women to join me. This study took 21 days and is actually how Womb Prep was started. I realized that I really wasn’t alone on my journey and that there were others just like me. Upon meeting women like me, I quickly realized that I had an innate desire to uplift and encourage them even though I’m dealing with the same thing.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being the CEO of Womb Prep hasn’t always been smooth sailing LOL. Infertility is such a taboo subject that most people don’t want to talk about or deal with – even if they are going through it. It’s also been difficult because the average person doesn’t know how to respond to a woman struggling to conceive and oftentimes say the wrong thing. But I honestly can’t complain because I’ve had some amazing opportunities and met some really awesome people along this crazy ride of entrepreneurship.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Womb Prep – what should we know?
Womb Prep is a faith based company that provides emotional and spiritual support for women with infertility. We have a Facebook support group where women can vent and cry but also receive prayer and encouragement. One of the things that sets us apart is how we do our in-person support groups. Most support groups are really serious and heavy but not ours. We pride ourselves on hosting fun events for our members. From sleepovers to meeting for ice cream – 95% of our events are light and fun. We do this so that the women can take their minds off of their infertility journey and just have some fun. We know that infertility is serious but we believe it’s important to find balance and do things not related to trying to conceive.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Ah man. There have been a number of people who have helped Womb Prep.

God – because without Him nothing I do would be possible.
My husband, Douglas, who let’s me unapologetically be me.
My Global Admin Shawanda Williams who takes care of our social media.
Adrienne Bell who has been a mentor and sponsor from day 1 and also helped me publish my book.
Chante Truscott who has been a true sister throughout this journey.
Brandy Stinson and Tikisha Morris who are my main sounding blocks that let me vent but will also get me together if need be LOL

But most importantly all the women dealing with infertility. Helping them and being a voice for them helps me tremendously. They make all the obstacles worth it.
