So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I started as a braider in Jersey City when I was 16 years old. At first it was a part-time job. I later moved to Atlanta with my then-husband. I worked in a salon as an apprentice. This is where my love for hair grew. The salon owner invited me to a hair show. I was impressed with the versatility of the hair industry offered. After three years working with the salon. I had to open a salon inside my home in order to save more money. My business outgrew the house so I decided to open a salon. where people can come, relax and learn how to manage their natural hair step by step on their personal journey.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It was not a smooth road. Learning how to work with different personality has been one of my challenge that I had to work on, following the budget is crucial and important. Being proactive is also important.
Djea Natural Hair Spa – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Djea Natural Hair Spa focuses on helping the client restore preserve and transition their hair step by step on their personal journey while offering a variety of style. We do focus and specialize on curl creation, loc expertise, color, cuts, braids, ceramic fusion. We are known for loc expertise, curl creation and color. I’m most proud of having a place for the client to come to a more relax and peaceful environment. We take the time to give every client a consultation on their hair before servicing them. We help them to learn to manage their hair after they leave the shop and we make sure to recommend the right products for their hair to use it at home.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I do enjoy teaching and helping client and staff. It brings me joy to see a stylist improve in their skills set. I love when a client leaves with a huge smile on their face.
