Today we’d like to introduce you to Giona Jornae.

Giona Jornae

Hi Giona, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m a 23-year-old single mom from California. Three years ago I moved to Atlanta because I was under the impression that I found the love of my life. April of 2021, I found out I was three months pregnant, although, I was super excited to be a mom I was extremely nervous. Later in the year, I gave birth to a beautiful babygirl, but I also went through a super difficult breakup that led me to become insecure and depressed. I wasn’t as educated on “postpartum depression” like I needed to be so I was at a really low point in life and I didn’t know how to cope. While dealing with a high level of stress and getting used to being a new mom I realized that self-care is a necessity. My passion for knowing more about the different aspects of self-care allowed me to develop a stronger sense of what self-love truly represents.

I aspired to build a brand that further conveys a strong message about personal care and how it betters all aspects of your life. It became a realization that the sexier I felt, the more confident I was in everything I did. Taking a hot bubble bath with body care products that smelt amazing made me feel relaxed. Wearing a robe around the house allowed me to be comfortable and feel luxurious. I created a brand that reflected on my everyday struggles. I battled not only with my weight but most importantly, my mental health. JORNAECO is the brand for those days you want to pamper yourself and feel good about yourself; I now appreciate that it’s a luxury to be at my best. A luxury to take care of myself. Watering myself has allowed me to evolve.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. It’s easy to lose direction when you are not confident in yourself. I was working a 9-5 and lost my job because I had to be a full-time mom. Having a ton of responsibilities with no source of income and going through postpartum depression was the worst thing I had to go through. Instead of focusing on finding myself again and getting back on my feet, I was more focused on putting a family back together that I knew was already broken and that held me back for the longest.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I started a brand named JORNAÉ, which specializes in natural handmade body care products that are butter-based such as body butters, body scrubs, and body oils with fragrances that remind you of sweets and bakery treats. I came up with this idea when I was pregnant because I had super dry skin and I always had a craving for anything sweet . I put those two ideas together and came up with JORNAÉ, also known as the body bakery.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
STRENGTH & CONFIDENCE; there were times I wanted to give up and times I actually gave up but I had to open my eyes and remember I have someone looking up to me now, and giving up wasn’t an option.
