Today we’d like to introduce you to Givon.
Givon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Honestly, I would’ve never got started if it wasn’t for my DJ when I was going to Georgia state. I was more so of a social butterfly, you know a party type of person and really didn’t take music seriously, but I’d always be free-styling for the fun of it. I would definitely write though, it was more so therapeutic. When I showed my homey Shaan Donn (my DJ) a few songs I wrote, he just pretty much saw the talent and wanted me to execute with it. Next thing you know, we were staying up till like 3, 4 in the morning, with class in a few hours, writing to YouTube beats. A year later, I started performing, and fast forward about two more years, I’m here now.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It’s been far from a smooth road. It takes a lot of discipline to do this career and it also takes a lot of self-belief. I think most artists have a common struggle, which is building a foundation of support. That includes getting people to come out to your shows, to get others to listen to your music and pretty much not take you for a joke. I understand it though because most people pick something up because it’s a trend and winds up putting it back down. It’s also difficult to create a solid foundation as in building a team. Some people you want to bring along just doesn’t have the same vision as you and settles with the life that they’re living, but you have to keep on striving.
We’d love to hear more about your work.
I’m an artist both visually and recording and one hell of a performer. My brain is Blk Cupid in love more. The reason why it shows this to be my brand is that, for those, I don’t know I was born on Valentine’s Day and I’m a big believer in showing love to other entrepreneurs, or anyone for that matter. I’m proud of the growth that I had over the years, almost 10,000 hours in.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up with one mother, and three other siblings In the suburbs of North Atlanta. We definitely struggled a lot, but my mother so strong, we persevered through tough times. I had dreams of playing in the NFL, but as you get older, things change.
