Gloria, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My Story! It started 30 years ago working at H&R Block in New London Conn. Within these 30 years, I started working in the accounting corporate world with preparing taxes during tax season. I started off as a receptionist, then data entry, floor leader, office manager, then my last job cash application supervisor, work with bank auditor, an in-house company auditor. I handle all the company revenue for four locations, trained new employees at all four locations, etc.
My last job due to major lay off (I happen to be one to be laid off), which now I see it has a Blessing. Of course, like everyone I was scared and worried about my house. (What was I going to do?) My sons said, “Mom. Why don’t you start your own business? You know how to do taxes. You have the work ethic.” So, I prayed, how do I get started. So, I went back to school at Jackson Hewlett, then work there to learn the new laws, to see how to start a tax season from beginning to end.
After working with Jackson Hewlett, I decide to continue my education in taxes, register with IRS, and took courses. The next season I step out on faith with not having any clients. I did one tax return, then next thing I knew I was doing more taxes by word of mouth. My clients are coming from all over, from Conn, South Carolina, North Carolina, Philadelphia, Florida, Texas, Georgia, New York, Louisiana, Virgin Islands.
I started this new journey four years ago to pay my house bills until I realize this is my calling. I now specialize in truck drivers, they need help with their tax issues. I had to serve truck drivers, tell me, we need you. With that said, I started putting my heart fully into specializing truck drivers and small businesses, will taking more courses, doing their taxes, representing them before IRS. I can clearly see they need someone, they can trust with handling their tax issues. This is where I am now, Blessings people through my business.
Has it been a smooth road?
No, it wasn’t a smooth road in my journey. Every time we start a new journey in our life, there’s a lot of obstacles/challenges that come with it, some big and some small. The small one to me is fear, belief, and trust. The big one is overcoming, all obstacles/challenges. Then, taking each step one step at a time overcoming all obstacles/challenges.
My fear was stepping out on faith, not believing within myself worth, and trusting again. I had all this at one time in my life but was knockdown by life, so I had to start over with many obstacles/challenges. When I was laid off it was a completed knockdown (tried to figure how out have to pay bills, have food on the table), when my friends turn their backs on me. It was another knockdown (I often felt alone), which caused me to lose trust. Also, left me fearing of losing everything. I had to rebuild my confidence within myself along with learning how to believe in myself to achieve my goals. Overcoming it all was hard and painful experience, but I knew by taking one step at a time, I would have achieved my goals with the business, that is continually growing.
This is my journey/testimony. No matter what obstacles/challenges anyone faces, we all can overcome it. We have the strength and the power within ourselves to overcome any obstacles/challenges. I have been through a lot to be where I am today proudly standing on solid grounds.
