Meet Glynnis and Katha Waters of CEG Bakery in Lindbergh

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glynnis and Katha Waters.

Glynnis and Katha, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Baking and cooking has been a hallmark of our family since as long as we can remember. We mark each holiday by creating a feast that takes an entire night to complete and builds a lifetime of memories.

In 2009 we celebrated our birthdays with a trip to Paris. Inspired by the wonderful bistros and bakeries there; we decided to open our own shop. After attending Le Cordon Bleu, we stepped out on faith shifting, our lives to begin our journey.

We hope to honor our Southern Heritage by using classic recipes and blended with classic French preparation. More importantly, we love feeding people our fresh, natural and simple treats and making our customers feel like family at home. The road has been filled with ups and downs, but in the end we allow God to guide our path and we find much happiness in the faces of our customer’s. We hold our breath on the first bite waiting for their eyes to light up and a wonderful to smile cross their lips, then we know they found a moment of happiness from something we created in love and we are filled with joy.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, the road has been filled with expected and unexpected obstacles. We felt an extreme fatigue following our grand opening that totally put our perspective on the energy our new venture would require. There have been adjustments made for the base realities of a small business that wasn’t backed by the name of chain. We’ve been pushed to the limits on customer service, creativity and learning to say no.

Funding has been a challenge. Since we were new avenues of funding are just being presented after three years of brick and mortar. We are basically self-funded.

Additionally, being a small business owner we’ve had to learn to put on many hats from baker, marketing, accountant, janitor, collections, etc…It was eye opening, our job doesn’t start and end with our business hours. It never goes away.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about CEG Bakery (Confiserie Eclectic Gourmet) – what should we know?
We are a full line bakery offering seasonal menus. We aim to use local ingredients and bake small batch using all natural ingredients (milk, butter, shell eggs, cane sugar) without preservatives or fillers. Small batch baking allows us to control quality. Everything is made from scratch just like our grandmother and mother did.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Keeping true to our vision, values and selves.
