Meet GodBody Science

Today we’d like to introduce you to GodBody Science.

GodBody Science, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got really heavy into hip-hop when I was in middle school and started rapping when I was fifteen. After dropping a string of projects in high school I figured that my best shot at getting into the music industry would be working for a local recording studio. So, in 2012, I secured an internship at Stankonia Studios; while there I was able to learn more about the recording process, how records come together, what it means to actually produce a body of work, and I was fortunate enough to sit in on sessions frequently with some of my favorite producers which drove my interest in music production (that and the fact that I couldn’t afford to buy beats at the time).

But yeah, with my newfound interest, came the hope that I could get production placed with a major artist too. And in 2013, I bought my first drum machine (an MPC) and ever since I’ve been making my own records from top to bottom.

I actually just put out two songs that are available on all streaming platforms and If you hop on whatever streaming platform you use and search for “Godbody science one of these should pop up:

1. Level Up
2. Momma, I Made It

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, lol. But you roll with the punches and get a few wins here and there so everything evens out. Being an artist comes with its share of unique struggles, and often times they’re financial; you have a million dollar vision, with a $100 budget (which is admittedly just like corporate America) but I digress. The struggle of getting your art seen, having a fan base patronize your work, or even having my production reach the right ears can be an uphill battle too but at the end of the day the slow grind has proven itself to be rewarding.

We’d love to hear more about what you do.
I’m probably most known for a weekly series I do on social media called “Sample Chop Saturdays”

The premise is that I take old TV theme songs that I loved back in the day and I remix them — sometimes you get a trap beat, other times it’s boom-bap, but either way it’s gonna be dope. Guaranteed. I’ve done two volumes so far: Volume one featured iconic black tv shows and volume two featured Nickelodeon shows. Volume 3 is currently in production and should be back within a few weeks.

I’m also known for my storytelling raps via another content series I started entitled “Sunday Night In East Atlanta” which is currently slated to return in the summer/fall 2019.

I think what sets me apart from other beatmakers/producers is my commitment to the old-school hip-hop sound but with the flare of newer production. I’m young enough to understand the technique behind golden era rap records, but since I grew up in Atlanta I’m so immersed in our sound that I can take the trap elements and create something refreshing. Let’s call it Boom-trap.

What was you like growing up?
I’m an introvert all day, and my interests have remained fairly consistent since my younger days; Hip-hop has reigned supreme and barring an act of God that probably won’t change anytime soon.
