Today we’d like to introduce you to Grant Wallace.
Grant, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’ve been playing in a fun rock band for about 8 years now. We had a show in Charleston and I felt really lethargic afterward. I basically just thought to myself.. how can I get in better shape? and thus was the creation of Grantlanta Lawn. nearly 2 years later, I have a crew of 5 guys, I’ve helped almost a thousand different houses in Atlanta, and it’s been the best job I’ve ever had.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
the biggest struggle was having too many people reach out too fast. It wasn’t until this summer that I became way too overwhelmed and I needed HELP. I got the point where I was turning away potential clients and being shady to the clients are I already had. I would tell someone that I would be over soon and then a week would go by before I could get over there! Thankfully that’s in the past… for now.
I actually need more help so if you’re reading this please reach out. I just posted to my socials that I’m looking on bringing on 1 more person this fall. Also, I started this company with nothing but my dad’s mower that he let me borrow and it hung out the trunk of my 2005 mercury sable. now I have a trailer with 2 mowers, all the proper equipment, and a new truck to go along with it. MUCH BETTER!
Please tell us about Grantlanta Lawn.
I am the owner of my now LLC and I do yards as well as divvy out the clients to my crew. We specialize in a slew of things. Mow, edge, blow, leaves, hedging, and almost anything else lawn related you can think of. I have also expanded my services to include tree trimming and an assortment of hardscaping help from Humble Harvest Garden.
And, this hasn’t even been announced yet but, as of next week, I’ll also be teaming up with Sanders Wildlife to also include wildlife exclusion, animal wrangling, and gutter installation. I think I’m just most proud of myself from turning nothing into something and I think the thing that sets me apart from others is that I’m not only a half decent landscaper but I’m your neighbor too. The majority of my clients only live a few miles from my house. My motto is mow locally!
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I’ve been a drummer for 15 years. The first time I played on my brother’s drum set I think I knew I was destined to be the drums for the rest of my life. If I had a pick a favorite childhood yard memory, it would be the first time I cut our grass back home. I couldn’t drive a car yet but my parents let me take the riding mower for a spin. I also cut our next door neighbors yard for a few bucks. Full circle!!
