Today we’d like to introduce you to Grant Wallace.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Grant. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started this business as a way to get in shape. I thought pushing around a mower would be a good way to get exercise. Turns out it is! I average about 10,000 steps on a good day!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely learned a lot after the first year. I started it as a “pay what you want” service and after a few months, I realized this wasn’t the most effective way to start a business. I was mostly just interested in getting exercise so money wasn’t a big incentive. Flash forward a few years and now I have a much better pricing system that still keeps the customer in mind and also reflects what the going rate is. I also brought on a administrative assistant this past summer which is something I wish I did from the start! She’s able to keep records on everything which is a tremendous help to me and the crew. I highly recommend getting an office admin for anyone else in a similar situation!
We’d love to hear more about your business.
I started as just a “mow & go” service and now we offer so much more! I was lucky enough to find an awesome crew to help me out (after a long couple of years of trying out the wrong guys). We still offer the “mow and go” service but it’s on a more professional level. Our biweekly maintenance services are our most popular but we also offer high-end landscaping now too. My partner Muhammed has been a huge asset for our bigger designs and installations. Additionally, I found other local neighbors to help me with other things like gutter cleaning, pressure washing, and most recently home cleaning. So now we can clean up your yard outside and house inside! Teaming up with the local community has been a dream come true.
Our local jurisdiction now stretches into all parts of metro Atlanta. I’ve joined forces with a couple of other landscaping companies so we can reach out even further including Atlanta and our northern friends in Marietta, Alpharetta, Kennesaw areas. My goal was to be able to help out a customer event if I personally couldn’t. I have a solid group of guys and companies I can recommend for almost any kind of landscaping work. These companies include Humble Harvest, Precise Landscape and Irrigation Solutions, Jeremiah’s Landscape Services & Helix Cleaning Services. Make friends, not competitors! I’d be happy to team up with any fellow business owners reading this if they think we would be a good match.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always had a passion for music. I started playing drums 15 years ago and have been playing ever since. Been lucky enough to tour the country and I still play with my bands BABY BABY and Challenger Deep to this day.
