Meet Greg Mondale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Mondale.

Hi Greg, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started out singing in church at the age of three. As I became older, I was appointed the lead singer of the church choir. When I turned 13, I joined my middle school choir under the direction of Arletha Perry with accompanist Toney Nixon. I was then introduced to classical singing. I was able to develop my vocal skills and techniques during this time. By the time I was 23, I was finally ready to record my own music. I was always fascinated with dark funky melodies and soulful sounds. My goal was to create music that people could chill too but also make the stank face because they feel it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
With anything, nothing worth having is easy to have. I have faced several challenges. One of those would be being an independent artist and promoting yourself. Nowadays, I feel it takes more than talent to even become a professional singer. An artist’s Social Media presence is very relevant. It seems there always needs to be a gimmick behind it. I miss the times where we focused simply on the music verses the antics. Also as an independent artist, I’m responsible for all expenses. This is challenging when putting projects together. What I’ve learned to do though, is to take my time with the process and do everything in stages.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m an R&B artist who specializes in R&B as well as Dance/House music. My music is for the grown &sexy. I love creating funk music, something with a hard baseline and a beautiful melody. As an artist, I’m always incorporating different sounds into my work. Being from the church, I incorporate a lot of harmonies and Wow moments in my songs. Depending on the song, I change up the tone and texture of my voice. Some songs require strong and loud vocals where others require sweet soft vocals to give certain effects and feelings.

Any big plans?
Yes, by this time next year, I will be a mixing engineer. With this new skill, I will be able to mix and master my own work. The great part about it is being able to get my work exactly how I like. I also plan to open up my mixing services to other artists as well as vocal producing.
