Today we’d like to introduce you to Greg Smith.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
A few years back we bought a building to expand the printing business, Printed Specialties Inc. and ended up not using the back third of that building. It’s an old hosiery mill, and the back of the building was the wet room and had these sloped concrete floors, trench drains that had been filled in, etc. I was in that room in December of 2015, trying to think of what I could do with this space—we’d really have to renovate it if we were going to move printing equipment into it. I looked down and saw the trench drains and sloped floors. I looked up and saw the 10” water main and 6” natural gas line and thought, why not start a brewery? Went home, popped open a home brew and the laptop, and put together a plan. Hired the right people to get it started and to maintain what we have going for us today.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are always going to be struggles along the way of course. Sourcing materials and understanding the market’s wants and needs can be a bit of an obstacle but a fun journey at the same time. The pandemic was undoubtedly a challenging time for all businesses small or large but we problem-solved and kept our heads held high.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Printer’s Ale Manufacturing Company?
We are a brewery in Carrollton, Georgia! We have a Taproom with over 16 beers on draft and our beer is distributed throughout Atlanta and surrounding areas. Our brewery is unique because we continue to operate as a printing company specializing in premium folding cartons. This means we make our own beer cartons! The project we are most excited about right now is our spontaneously fermented Woodcut Wild Ales and our Barrel-Aging program! These offerings use yeast and hops native to our facility in Carrollton, Georgia.
So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
