Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Johnson.
Hi Gregory, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Just a kid from Cleveland, Ohio!
There was a point in time when I was homeless in LA, trying to reach my dreams of acting. I was donating plasma and selling my clothes to support myself. Over time, my Lord & Savior “Yahawah” sent people/brothers to help me along the way. They’ve helped me with work and also believing in my dream. I even met the rapper/influencer DDG, and he told me to work for everything and don’t take a hand out. So I started to learn more about acting, and going to auditions, I’ll find myself. Standing in the long lines and competing and being told no a lot “LoL”. I was even told that I’m to goofy to act. And this career will not be for me. I didn’t let that stop me at all. I. Matthew 19:26 God tells you with men, this is impossible, but with God, all things are possible. I always had faith and stayed positive
One day my mom calls and says I have a little cousin who is acting in Atlanta and doing his thing. His name is Jerome Beazer, and he signed to AMT and has been in a lot of films/TV shows. I reached out, and his mother, Semika, aka classy, put me in the same acting showcase to be discovered. Called 541 Productions. They all changed my life. I got Discovered by my lovely agent, Tonya Hensley, at TDH Talent Unlimited based in Atlanta, and now I’m signed with Sweetheart Elite Talent based in Los Angeles.
It took almost eight years of hard work and grinding, but I am here now, and it feels amazing. I tell everyone to Keep The Lord first in everything you do. He will meet you halfway. Now I just shot my first film, and I then shot with brands and going out on Big auditions, and it feels amazing to be living in my dream and purpose.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Struggles along the way were people trying to tell me not to pursue my dream. Folks would say I’m to goofy, I don’t have the big muscles. Actors can’t stutter. I never let it get to me. I stayed in prayer consistently. I didn’t let my struggle overtake me.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Being an Actor is definitely challenging but fun at the same time. We go out on auditions and study and compete every day with the best. We can’t have days off. I am most proud of being signed and capturing my dream. The thing that sets me apart from others is I’m doing this for strangers and others than myself. I can have a big impact on lives and help change some.
What’s next?
I want to open my own school for kids/adults to get into acting and show them the right way and not lead them down the wrong path.
