Meet Gregory Turner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Turner.

Gregory Turner

Gregory, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started drawing and making little characters when I was young living in Baton Rouge, LA. I always knew I wanted to do something in art and spent my years growing up trying to better my skills and figure out what I wanted to do as an adult. I went from drawing with pencil and paper to digital painting, and now I’m doing 3D modeling and creating stories to accompany the art I make. After I went to school and got my degree, I kind of merged my passion for art and storytelling together to make my full passion project. I moved to Georgia to bring that project to life.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. There’s been plenty of times where I doubted myself, my art, even my worth. There’s plenty of times where outside sources have made me feel discouraged in my capabilities. I am still on the road to being fully confident in what I create. Although people tell me how talented I am and how cool my work looks, I’m still my own worst critic. In today’s time, there are so many people doing similar things that it was important to me to find a way to create something fresh that you don’t see every day.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In a nutshell, I am a 3D artist. I specialize in character modeling like people, animals and creatures, but also have fun modeling hard surface objects like furniture, buildings, and props. Right now I’m mostly known for the angel characters I’ve been creating as part of my first big project I’ve been working on. I am creating one of the first 3D-modeled comics. It’s unique because it stands out from the average comic that is hand drawn while this one in a way is digitally “hand” sculpted.

This project is titled “Cresline” and it’s immensely important to me because of the topics I chose to shine a light on and the types of characters I chose to lead the story. There are eight very diverse friends who all happened to be orphans with backgrounds ranging from Haitian, Samoan, North African, Jamaican, Asian, and Spanish. This story is basically a “what if.”

What if a group of friends gained supernatural abilities from a higher power? What if they had to battle supernatural entities while also battling their everyday struggles in today’s society? What would that look like for me? I pull inspiration from my favorite genres like fantasy, mystery, horror, and adventure.

In the end, this story is meant to show that throughout everything we go through and the many things that make us different; if we were all to unify and work as one, it’s a power that’s unstoppable.

Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I also do a lot of freelance work. I’ve done some graphic art for clients, 3D work, photography and Photoshop editing. I dip my toe in all kinds of visual art aspects, and I’m honestly just hungry to get out here and show the world what all I can really do.
