Today we’d like to introduce you to Shaquille Butler.
Shaquille, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I had no idea that would be in the hair industry, my plans after high school was to be in college going to school for business management. A year and a half after graduating high school that slightly shifted and I started getting into hair . I worked part time at enterprise as service agent I worked there for a whole year 3 months before I decided to leave I got an email from this company called mayvenn they found me on twitter because you know I use that platform to advertise my hair styles & work , that’s how they found me long story short they were fresh new company looking for stylist to push their amazing hair but while doing that you could make 15% commission off of every order, I was top stylist in sales many times I stayed with them for like 6-8 months and I got contacted by a manufacturer overseas and that’s how my brand sbs virgin hair company got created I took the chance with my own hair, now people all over the world orders my hair even celebrities are wearing it, here in Atlanta I do a lot of work with fashion shows & on set work with celebrities & tv shows I’m just enjoying my time here and building my clientele I’m pretty good with hair weaving extensions & natural hair I’m a big fan of free flowing hair it’s 2016 #nostiffhair my latest business in the hair industry I started is my product line I have a great edge control that’s out now in 2017 I will be launching a shampoo & conditioner.
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road along the way , it has been a lot of people trying to take from me everything I do and my marketing know how i learned on my own i did have guide book on how to properly run a hair business or how to target new clients , believe it or not i have had a lot of people try to get close to me to figure out how I got my hair line or to figure out how I got my product line & how did I get connected with some of the top and wealthy people here in Atlanta, I tell people all the time while a lot of people are sleeping at 2am I’m up online researching things and figuring out my next move.
Who, or what, deserves a lot of credit for where you are today?
My mom has played a big role in career she’s always there when I need guidance & I need direction in my business decisions that I make or I am presented with. When I was in cosmetology school my instructor Monique sanders really taught me things that really didn’t know about cutting I really use to be scared to even cut or trim hair also her telling me about products really helped me out more to this day she really knowledgeable.
What kind of work do you look forward to most?
I am working on starting my branding & image consultant company helping other hair stylist & makeup artist take their brand to the next level 2017 I will be adding to my product line 2017 hair serum & sprays will be added. My favorite clients are a few clients I have in Hinesville, GA they come to me and say I don’t care what you do to my hair just make me look flawless I really enjoy those clients who let me be creative.
What have been some of the most important lessons you’ve learned over the course of your career?
If I had to start over i wouldn’t have let certain people into my life that I did, I wouldn’t have said yes to a lot of things that I did & I also wouldn’t let people walk over me & try to downplay me like I did so I learned a lot of people are for themselves so here in Atlanta & all over the world you just have to careful it’s a lot of dream sellers out here and they latch on to people with great talent.
