Today we’d like to introduce you to Haley Yarbrough.
SoulPepper Designs was founded in 2012 by Wendy Way and Haley Way. Self-taught, this creative mother-daughter duo, designs and hand makes every piece in their studio in Perry, Georgia. SoulPepper exemplifies their combined love for art, inspiration and effortless style. Some of their favorite materials to use are 14k gold filled components, various gemstones, and quality wood.
Wendy, drawing from her years studying art at the University of Georgia, looks to the fundamentals and finds inspiration for design all around her. Haley, a graduate from the University of Georgia with a degree in Fashion Merchandising, often finds inspiration for her designs from nature and her love of fashion. Together their designs form SoulPepper. Both Wendy and Haley continue to build SoulPepper on the grounds of faith, laughter, and the pursuit of all things beautiful. Simple yet lacking nothing, SoulPepper Designs is cultivating a look that is effortless and sophisticated. Handcrafted and always unique, SoulPepper is a lifestyle, a brand, and a state of mind.
Has it been a smooth road?
Owning your own business is NEVER a smooth road. Worth it? Yes. I think the biggest struggle is navigating the “business side” of our business. Mom and I are both “right-brained” people. We want to create beautiful things but also be able to turn a profit. We have had to learn a lot about running a business and still continue to learn everyday! I think a HUGE part of success is knowing your weakness and seeking out the help you need to grow! We’re continuing to do just that and loving the relationships we are making along the way!
So, as you know, we’re impressed with SoulPepper Designs – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We specialize in jewelry design. We have two sides to our business: wholesale and retail. I am most proud of the relationships we have made and kept with numerous vendors and retailers over the past eight years. We have retailers that have been buying our jewelry since 2012 and that is something we will forever be grateful for! First and foremost, we pride ourselves in a beautiful handcrafted, quality jewelry; however, in the past year, we have looked to expand the retail side of our e-commerce business by introducing more products to our website than just our own! Stay tuned for exciting things to come in 2020!
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I moved to Atlanta almost immediately after college (circa 2014). The thing I loved most about Atlanta (and still do) is all of the inspiring resources it has to offer. A few of my favorite resources are America’s Mart, ADAC, antique shops, boutique retail shops, restaurants, concert venues… the list goes on and on. The thing I missed most when living in Atlanta was the serenity and simplicity of a small town. During my residential time in Atlanta, I was doing a lot of commuting to our HQ in Perry. After leaving Atlanta in 2017, I have enjoyed being able to retreat to our studio space in Perry anytime the “creative spark” ignites! I love that we are close enough to drive to Atlanta for a day trip or weekend trip to soak up all of the inspiration Atlanta offers!
