Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Andersen.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Hannah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started out as an Art major at the University of North Georgia. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do with it though. Through high school, I always had a passion for makeup and fashion. I use to spend my free-time on YouTube looking up different looks to create. I practiced on myself, my friends, and my sister. I got into special FX makeup and loved the challenge and creativity behind it. I guess that is where my “art major” comes in. I use to schedule girls from my high school to come to my house and I would do their prom makeup as a side hustle. Every Halloween, I would practice fun and creepy looks on my little sister. Meanwhile, I started working in a hair salon as a front desk while I was finishing up my core classes in college. I realized how rewarding it was to watch clients leave feeling beautiful and refreshed. I decided to go to beauty school to get my license. Originally, I just wanted my license to do only makeup, but the hair was something to fall back on. Little did I know, that I would love hair as much as makeup! I got my license in nine months and began working as an assistant at the same salon. I started promoting some of my work on Instagram, and before I knew it, I was getting booked solid. In my second year of doing hair, Moroccanoil reached out to me to become an ambassador and help launch their Color Complete line. I had so much fun creating content for them and trying out new products. It has been so inspiring meeting amazing companies and artists along the way. I can’t wait for what the future holds.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest challenge for me is to not compare yourself to others. I think Instagram is an amazing tool to promote and inspire an audience, but it can also make one feel like they are not enough. I love to follow artists in the industry that inspire me. However, it can be difficult at times to realize it takes work to get to the level they are at. What we don’t see is all the countless hours they put in to be where they are today.
What do you do? What do you specialize in?
I specialize in Boho braids, blondes balayage, extensions, and makeup. I also love to do fashion editorials and photo shoots when I’m not behind the chair.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I would like to teach educational classes on makeup and hair color from start to finish. I also plan to get more involved with editorial hair and makeup for fashion shows and photo shoots. Something exciting that is happening in the future is, in September, I will be in New York attending The Moroccanoil Academy for an editorial class. Part of the class is having the chance to be a part of New York fashion week.
