Meet Hannah Crump

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Crump.

Hannah, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I got my first camera when I was 11, it sounds crazy but I begged my mom forever til she got me one. It was a skinny cheap little camera from Walmart but I loved it. I started taking pictures of everything, the trees, my friends, random objects around the house. It was always so much fun. A year later, I got a new camera, a Kodak point, and shoot. In 8th grade when I was 14, I upgraded to another new camera, it was another point and shoot but it was a canon so it was definitely better. I had this camera all the way up til I was 16. With that camera, I definitely found my passion for shooting people and directing a shoot, choosing the outfits and locations. My first paid shoot was with this camera when I was 15, I did family photos and everything felt so natural to me!

When I was 16, I got my first DSLR camera, a Nikon, and I’ve been working towards professional photography ever since. Starting a creative hobby that I wanted to be my career at such a young age was hard, not knowing where you should be in life if this is really the path to go… I gave up a lot! But I truly found myself in my work and it’s made me who I am today. I am not usually an open person but I’m open in my work, I feel it’s the only place I can share emotions and not feel vulnerable. I specialize in stylized, boudoir, and couples. I truly made the leap to a more stable business environment after I had my son, Sage. There is just something about being a mom that really pushes you to make your dreams come true so you can make a better life for your child. After that my business has skyrocketed from where I used to be. I am receiving so many new amazing clients, working with returning clients from years back and booking weddings. It’s been such an amazing experience. I feel so blessed and I am so thankful for this life.

Has it been a smooth road?
Definitely has not been smooth! Big struggles for me were having to work full time, go to school part-time and do photography part time too. It was really hard to focus on everything at once. Finding your style is difficult, social media can really put you down looking at more successful photographers but I always remind myself that we all start out somewhere and I just keep pushing.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I specialize in stylized portraits with aspiring or signed models, boudoir and couples. I plan and direct all my sessions, I love making my visions come to life. I am most proud of how comfortable I make ladies during my boudoir sessions because that is a very hard thing for a lot of women to do but I always am told how beautiful and comfortable clients feel while shooting with me, and my biggest compliment is how well I direct during all my sessions. I take a lot of pride in making my clients happy. That will always come first. I think those things and my editing style sets me apart from others. I like to use darker tones when I edit.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Atlanta has a lot of wonderful talent, I definitely think its hard to make it. I have a lot of my clients south of Atlanta and I’m just now meeting new people in Atlanta. I don’t know if I would recommend or not recommend because everyone’s talent is different and some people can be more advanced when starting out and there are also a lot of great opportunities in the city as well. So, yes, it’s a good place! Just competitive. My only advice would be to follow your heart and never give up.
