Harmony, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My story starts when I was just two years old, I watched my mom put on lipsticks and lip glosses and I begged her to gloss mines. Eventually, I convinced her that I was old enough to have my own lip gloss. It was either that or she got tired of me asking for hers. Every morning before school I applied my lip gloss and I would cry when my mom told me I could not take it to school.
Sometimes I snuck it to school anyway. I excessively glossed my lips every day and all day and I hated when I would run out. I loved the way my lips shined and sparkled and my glossy lips were always the finishing touch of my looks.
One day I overheard my mom discussing her business opportunities and decided that I want to sell lip glosses to all my friends. I stated that to her once or twice and she believed in me. She thought that was a brilliant idea 💡 and she made it happen for me. For my 8th birthday, I didn’t ask for a party like I normally do. I ask if I can start my business with my savings. My mother and father agreed. They both invested in me because my savings wasn’t as huge as I thought (my piggy bank really tricked me). However, I’m thankful I was able to accomplish my goal. My vision is to share my love for lip gloss to everyone I encounter with. When I told my mom I wanted to sell lip gloss, at the time, I thought it was only my dream and imagination but guess what…???? There are dreams that do comes true.
Has it been a smooth road?
It has not always been a smooth road for Harmonica Lips. Me and my mom are both perfectionists. I vision my business to be a certain way and to have a certain image and not everyone see the same vision. So it has been many times where collaborative work went wrong. I learned that it takes patience and persistence to own successful business. So every time I thought about postponing, my mom told me to not give up and keep trying. Every time I thought my parents got distracted and caught up in the real world, I will make sure I reminded them how much this means to me.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Harmonica Lips story. Tell us more about the business.
Harmonica Lips is a cosmetic line that offers glamorous lips with sparkling pearls. My lip glosses give that extra boost of shine that everyone craves for. Our company specializes in kid lip glosses of all kinds. We offer paraben free, gluten free, as well as vegan lip colors.
Harmonica is originated from an instrument. My name is Harmony which means the combination of simultaneously sounded musical notes to produce chords having a pleasing effect of music. The Harmonica is recognized as a soft sound instrument. Each color in my lip gloss line symbolizes a different note.
What sets me aside from other businesses is that I am a young entrepreneur. I’ve been amazed with lip gloss for years and Here I am now, eight years old and there couldn’t be
a better time to share my dreams with the world.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next 5-10 years, I see my cosmetic line having a huge growth of branding. Harmonica Lips will offer many other cosmetic products that are kid friendly and very Rich. My goal is to have Harmonica Lips a cosmetic one-stop shop. This will be a successful journey because I am only striving for greatness.
