Today we’d like to introduce you to Herve Dor.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I didn’t come into insurance the traditional way. Like a lot of people, I found my way here by accident. I originally set out to work in law enforcement—I was driven by wanting to be the change I wished I’d seen after the deaths of Trayvon Martin and others. I was even hired by two police departments.
Everything shifted when I lost two of my brothers to sickle cell disease in less than two years. I suddenly became the last line of support for my family, and choosing a career where my life was constantly at risk no longer felt responsible. I was at a crossroads when my older cousin and mentor suggested I look into sales.
That’s when it clicked. I saw firsthand how even a modest life insurance policy helped my family avoid even more devastation during one of the hardest seasons of our lives. After meeting an insurance agent in Roswell who became my second mentor, I realized this work wasn’t random—it was a calling.
Now, I help families and business owners protect what they’re building, so when life happens, it doesn’t undo everything they’ve worked for.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Life has taught me that nothing worth having comes smooth. I entered insurance right as COVID hit, when the world flipped upside down and the industry had to completely rethink how business was done. That moment forced me to stay light on my feet, adapt quickly, and move forward without a playbook—which has honestly been a recurring theme in my life.
Two years later, in December 2021, I launched my own agency during what the industry calls a hard market—tight underwriting, less flexibility, and fewer “easy wins.” I did that while still grieving the loss of my father in September 2021, on top of already carrying the weight of losing two brothers. It was a lot at once.
There’s been a steep learning curve and plenty of moments where it felt like I was playing catch-up. But I’ve always performed well under pressure. What keeps me going is knowing that the work I’m doing genuinely helps people protect their families and businesses. That belief makes the challenges worth it—and honestly, it’s why I keep pushing forward.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Dor Agency?
We’re a full-service insurance agency based in Marietta, offering expertise across Auto, Home, Commercial, and Life Insurance—but we’re not your typical insurance shop. We operate as an extension of our clients’ family office, providing real risk-management guidance, not just policies. I built this agency for one core reason: to help families and business owners avoid financial calamity.
We do our best work with what I call “immigrants to wealth”—people who may not have grown up with much, but beat the odds to build assets, businesses, and stability. Our job is to protect what they’ve worked so hard to create. That mindset shapes everything we do.
What truly sets us apart is our people and our perspective. Every agent in my office brings a unique background and lens on risk. Mine happens to be that I’ve been protecting my family and community my entire life—and now I get to do that professionally for others.
We’re especially known for protecting homes—often a family’s single largest asset—and for safeguarding personal property through a strong network of appraisers and specialists.
What I’m most proud of, though, is our commitment to the community. I grew up in Marietta. I live in Marietta. And my business helps protect Marietta and the surrounding areas. I may not have become a police officer, but I still get to be the change I wanted to see—just in a different, and deeply meaningful, way.
What’s next?
My plan for the future is growth—with purpose. I want to be a household name in my community, known as someone people can truly rely on in times of need. I plan to do that by continuing to build our agency into one of the top insurance firms in the area, supported by a dedicated, community-driven team of agents who care deeply about the people they serve.
That growth is important not just for the business, but because it directly fuels our ability to give back. Through my nonprofit, The Dor Foundation, which is largely funded by the agency, we’ve created a full circle of impact—the more families and business owners we help protect their assets, the more resources we can reinvest into the community to support those who are less fortunate. The goal is not just charity, but helping people get into positions where they can begin building and protecting assets themselves.
I’m genuinely excited about what’s ahead and honestly believe 2026 will be our best year yet.
