Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Katz.
With over a decade in design, merchandising and production in New York’s fashion industry, Holly is now based in Atlanta, Georgia. She specializes in personal styling for the educated, ambitious, #bossbabe styling them from all of their pre-wedding festivities to the life cycles thereafter. Her stylish clients love her realistic approach to dressing, making things super easy to understand explaining in intimate detail what works for their life phase and personality.
By breaking it down from body image all the way to a completed lookbook from your closet, Holly tailors each client’s needs to fit the who, what, when and where for each person. Holly has styled clients from coast to coast in addition to her reoccurring television appearances as one of Atlanta’s most elite fashion influencers and experts.
Common subjects have included, important wardrobe and styling techniques, identifying your body type, current fashion trend reports, viewer style questions/concerns and so much more. Her latest project “Holly’s Fashion Fix” is a series of videos specializing in her client’s (bride to #bossbabe) main pain points and concerns when it comes to developing and keeping a current style. She shops with the client to give them the most intimate fashion insider details about how to shop for themselves, putting looks together and helping them acquire a wardrobe that will transition from work to weekend with ease.
While she’s working weekends as a fashion stylist at the Georgia Bridal Show for the past 6 years, Holly has also been seen on set styling photo shoots and live interviews for the Katz Networks featuring Ludacris, Pam Grier and the cast of Saints & Sinners for Bounce TV & Brown Sugar.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No way has it been smooth. Figuring out what you’re best at, working on your skills and trying to find your way can be extremely discouraging. Each job that I had prepared me to be a better stylist, learning about garment construction, how garments are made and sewn together, working with overseas factories and costing…. this all separates me from other personal fashion stylists in the business.
It has taken me a long time to figure out how I want to spend my time. What do I really love and care about? What is the way I can make a difference in the world? These are all questions that have been hanging over me while working in other jobs that weren’t satisfying for me. I have had to jump through hundreds of hoops to even get here where I am now and I’m still finding out the best way my business can work most efficiently. I have pushed plenty of paper around behind a desk in the meantime……..
Holly Katz Style – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Holly Katz Style is a personal styling service working with women through each life cycle starting with their pre-wedding events to the development of their professional careers. I specialize in working with women who understand the power of a polished image for both home and work life. I am known for my “little bit of tough love’ approach. I have been called the “Mary Poppins” of style; loving but firm.
I have a no-nonsense way of dealing with clients not letting any excuse or story hold them back. I’ve been called both a style coach and therapist. Empathizing and understanding what my clients actually care about when it comes to dressing builds the trust that keeps my clients calling me every time they feel they need a professional eye guiding them to the wardrobe that supports their lifestyle. I find that most women that I work with have a common thread no matter their age, life phase, industry, etc. They put themselves at the bottom of the priority list. Everyone else is more important than them kids, work, family, etc.
I reverse this pattern of thinking giving them permission to:
A. Put themselves back on the top of the priority list
B. Spend money on themselves as an investment in their career and lifestyle, not taking away from their families
C. Give to themselves first, so they can give more of themselves to their families.
With my strong fashion background in production, costing and development, I know how garments are made and understand the cost of what it takes to put a line into production. Explaining cheap vs. expensive and why things are a better value than others sets me apart from my competition. My firm knowledge of the garment industry alone makes me a better shopper than most.
I know how stores merchandise to customers and am able to explain the layout of a department store so clients can make purchases quickly without getting swallowed and overwhelmed by large stores. In the end, I equip you with a clear style plan so you can fly on your own; always knowing they can reach out to me anytime with pictures or questions.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Probably the proudest moment was when I did my first television appearance on Atlanta & Co. Working with the staff at WXIA made it so easy to feel like I was part of their family. I had never been on television before.
As soon as my segment was over they asked me to come back and I have made several appearances on the show ever since. They know they can always count on me for fresh and interesting fashion content for their viewers.
