Meet Horace Buckley of HB3 in Kennesaw/Marietta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Horace Buckley.

Horace, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started shooting photography in high school, around 12th grade – but it wasn’t until midway through my freshman year of college that I decided to take things more seriously. I bought my first camera on January 12, 2017, and from there, the journey started. I moved from taking pictures to focusing strictly on the video aspect of media. I started HB3Productions in my dorm room and in the beginning, I was shooting club and party promo videos! After being dubbed a couple of times by promoters and “hosts”, I realized that I needed more legitimate clients, so I reached out to artists who needed music videos and local sports teams who needed promotional content. Long story short, HB3Productions began to flourish and from that small business, I was able to branch off and help create other media groups including Neighborhood Rejects, and our new baby that I’m especially proud of, our new upcoming media production house, LucidMint.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The road has definitely not been smooth! Just from an internal perspective, I’ve had my struggles with feeling as if my work wasn’t good enough or trying to compare my growth next to somebody else’s. Those are the worst kind of struggles in my opinion – the internal one. With every new piece of work, I try to make sure that it is better than my last and I opted to look to other creatives for inspiration. But you can easily get lost in looking for inspiration and hitting that wall of self-creative disdain. So early on, I struggled with that a lot until I got to the point where I could confidently display any piece of my work because I truly felt good about it. Outside of the internal challenges, no one ever prepared me for the financial struggles either. Getting started in media production/content creation is definitely not cheap, and most people don’t know that because it seems like everybody has a decent camera nowadays. There have definitely been times where I crowdsourced for equipment or if I bought it on my own, then I was crowdsourcing for my next meal, lol.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’ve held a lot of different roles while coming up/still coming up. When I first started out I was the Director, Editor, Lighting, Grip, Producer, etc – basically trying to be an all-in-one production company by myself which got to be exhausting.

Now, I’m more known for my post-production work. I still do DP (Director of Photography) work when the need is, and most times I do take on the DP role when its a project that I’m passionate about. But I fell in love with the editing side of content creation so I’ve been honing my skills in the Adobe Creative Suite, mainly Premiere and After Effects.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Future plans, hmm… well, I and my brother (@Donbodega) have a lot of stuff in the works with Lucidmint and getting that off the ground. We’ve been slowly putting things together over the last six months to make sure his grand debut as an artist and the debut of Lucidmint both roll out smoothly. And we’re going to ride that train out and see how far we can expand the brand. We’re excited to see what comes out of it and the team we have around us right now (Jordan Luke, Josh, Davon, Nickvon, Lajaun, etc.) are all putting in a great amount of work and its great to see how iron is sharpening iron and our how much we are growing together.
