Meet Howard Krinsky of The Splatter Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Howard Krinsky.

Howard Krinsky

Hi Howard, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I grew up in the family business, Binders Art Supplies and Frames, and it’s still where I spend my days. This October we’ll celebrate an incredible 70 years in operation. I’m proud to represent the second generation, carrying forward the legacy my father and uncle—Moe and Joe—began in 1955. Their entrepreneurial spirit first showed up in their namesake tavern, Moe’s & Joe’s, which still serves customers in Atlanta’s Virginia-Highland neighborhood under different ownership. Like any retailer, we’ve always looked for fresh ways to inspire people to walk through our doors. That search sparked an experiment: an immersive paint-slinging session where guests could channel their inner Jackson Pollock and fling color onto canvas with total freedom. No skill required—if you missed the canvas, it only added to the fun. The simple idea that “there are no rules” turned out to be transformational. People discovered not just the joy of the finished piece, but the thrill of the act itself. That pilot evolved into something much bigger. The Splatter Studio emerged as a standalone business built entirely around that sense of playful, unbounded creativity. Today it thrives as its own experience-driven art space, proof that when you remove the limits, you invite everyone to become an artist.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We launched The Splatter Studio just before the world shut down for COVID. After only a month or two of operating, we were forced to close—but when we reopened, something remarkable happened. People were hungry for connection and eager for creative outlets, and our studio quickly became a go-to destination for that spark of joy. Expanding beyond our Binders location came with its own challenges. We eventually planted roots in both Virginia-Highland and Sandy Springs, but figuring out how to run the studios efficiently was a learning curve. Each session required significant setup and cleanup, so we had to refine our operations to maximize how many experiences we could offer each day. One unexpected hurdle was drying time. Guests would finish their masterpiece only to learn they had to return later to pick it up—a logistical headache that created storage issues and left out-of-town visitors without a seamless experience. Our solution became a signature touch: a custom-designed Splatter Studio box. Now every guest can take their painting home immediately, and we can ship it anywhere in the U.S.—or across the globe—in that same box. It’s a small detail that turned an operational challenge into an extension of the creative experience.

What truly sets us apart is our team. Our Google reviews consistently rave about the warmth and energy of our staff—nine times out of ten, guests call them the highlight of their visit. We work hard to create unforgettable moments and to keep evolving based on what our guests want, whether it’s an intimate date night or a company-wide team-building extravaganza.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success as taking genuine pride in my work, staying true to my values, and knowing that what I do creates real value—for people and for the business. Recognition and results matter, of course, but I see them as the natural outcome of meaningful work you truly believe in.

At The Splatter Studio, we may not be saving lives, but every day we witness the sheer joy our guests experience when they unleash their creativity. Watching someone light up as they create something uniquely their own is powerful. That spark of self-expression boosts confidence, lifts spirits, and leaves a lasting impression. For me, that positive impact—the way art can enhance well-being and self-esteem—is the very definition of success.
