Meet Idris French

Today we’d like to introduce you to Idris French.

Hi Idris, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
At age 12, I started freestyling as I would walk to block buster, school, wherever I would go. At 15, I started to write in my phone different, just jotting down lyrics. When I turned 21, I started to fill up composition books. At 23, I announced to my family during Christmas that I was going to pursue my music career professionally. At 24, It was my first time performing in front of a crowd and I have never stopped working since. Everyday I worked to be better and get better. I’m in the business of winning.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Nothing is a smooth road. If someone tells you it is, they are lying. I dealt with depression for the first few years in my 20’s. I did not know I was dealing with it. It was hidden. But I conquered it by wanting to be the best version of myself and facing everything and everyone I was running away from. Money, I don’t give a damn about the money or the fame. I just focus on being better. I mean….you either gonna have a lot or you are not going to have enough, that’s nothing to complain about. I prayed and manifested my outcome. You actually have to embrace the struggle, though long never ending road that has potholes, nails, speed bumps, etc., embrace it all and strive to adjust and be the best version of you through it all.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an artist and a student to hip hop and all music. I’m known for being Idris French, inspiring people and that infinite positive energy. What sets me apart is that I value integrity. A lot of people in this industry are straight-up garbage and that’s from a character standpoint, some know they are some don’t. They think they matter but they really don’t, they believe they are the ones holding the door open and the ones shutting the door, they’re not. I’m for the people, for the creatives, I look to create opportunities for my people. I don’t have an ego, I just want to be better. I’m obsessed with getting better.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
When you find someone that interests you, ask. It’s that simple. What works for me may not work for others. You have to see what works for you. When I started my journey, I said I am going to do it my way. I read books, I rehearse my ass off, I have a mentee, I have friends, family, fans that look to me for inspiration through my work. What has worked for me is….that I never doubted myself and I never stopped. Strive to be better and do the work to get there, that’s my advice.
