Meet Ifeoluwa Kayode

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ifeoluwa Kayode.

Hi Ifeoluwa, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Growing up, academics have always been the main focus and center of my life. My creativity and non-academic interests (excluding those that attributed to that of the exemplary student profile) had consistently been put on pause. As a first-generation immigrant from Nigeria, it has always been very important in my traditional household to do well in school and to put my studies first. Regardless, my education is genuinely one of the most important aspects of my life and something that I greatly value. After graduating early with my Bachelor’s of Science degree and soon starting my Master’s degree at Emory University in the fall, I have now reached a period of my life where I can make time for, properly pursue, and start chasing after my creative/artistic dreams.

All my life, no matter where I go or who I am around, I have always been asked whether I am a model, do I model, and/or when I am going to start modeling. Ever heard the phrase, “I wish I had a dollar for every time I’ve been told this?” At this point, I’d be a millionaire. Modeling was not something I pursued until post-undergrad. I did not have any real prior experience to print modeling. Thankfully, I had friends who were photographers actively starting off their own journey’s and looking for models to build their own portfolios. In addition to this, I have used social media as a platform to increase my exposure and build new connections. Using social media, I have also started exercising my other passions through content creation (fashion, lifestyle, and fitness).

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Sometimes the hardest part of starting a new journey is taking that first step and putting yourself out there. Considering the fact that I am a very academics-oriented individual often involved in other endeavors such as community service, STEM research, and leadership, these endeavors often consumed my time. As much as I love participating in these things, I intensely found myself working against my own creative passions by constantly pushing them to the side. As I continue to grow wiser, I am learning the importance of balance in my life as well as patience, consistency, and staying true to who I am, who I want to become, and who God has set me apart to be.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a multifaceted woman who is not afraid to pursue what her heart desires. My academic/scholar achievements are just as important to who I am as are the endeavors I am pursuing as a model and creative. I am currently starting off my modeling journey through freelance modeling. I have participated in multiple creative projects and have been featured in magazines (both for modeling and for scholarly recognition). I am very proud of all of these attributes that embody who I am as an individual. I am grateful for God’s aid in my growth and excited for where He will continue to take me. Channelling and outwardly expressing who I am through my academics, modeling, content creation, etc. as well as actively serving as a leader in my community sets me apart from others.

What are your plans for the future?
I am looking forward to where my journey will lead me, how far my consistency and drive will take me, and my growth during the pursuit. I plan to venture into other forms of digital content creation such as creating YouTube videos. As my platforms continue to grow, I hope for them to also serve as a resource for professional development, personal growth/development, and empowerment as well as inspire others to pursue their passions without believing they have to make sacrifices. I aspire to exemplify that it is possible to not only stay grounded in your academics/career and still pursue your artistic hobby/passions but also excel at them simultaneously.
