After a two-year stint in Investment Banking, I started my first venture exporting cars from the United States to UAE. Over the two years running that business, I exported several hundred vehicles. While running the business, I realized the need to connect US automotive dealers directly with overseas export buyers. I developed and launched FliWheel.co to serve as a car export marketplace and logistics platform and am working on scaling the business. The development process for FliWheel.co helped me understand the unique challenges startups and entrepreneurs face to bring their vision to life. So I teamed up with my developer, MyWebProgrammer.com (MWP), to bring creative and cost-effective web, application and software development solutions to companies in Atlanta.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest challenge that I have faced in my career thus far is the uncertainty of stepping out of a narrow career path. I took a risk by going from finance into entrepreneurship. While I had many sleepless nights, it ultimately paid off as I am doing something that I am passionate about and I enjoy the challenges and triumphs of running a business. A challenge that I faced during the development process for FliWheel.co was partnering with the right people to execute on my vision for the product. The guys at MyWebProgrammer.com not only did an excellent job on the development side but also provided great advice as I navigated other aspects of building a company.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about FliWheel.co and My Web Programmer – what should we know?
FliWheel.co is an online car export marketplace that connect US dealers directly with overseas buyers of automotive inventory. US dealers can list and sell their cars to the export market. Buyers can handle the entire purchase and export process through the platform. This include search, negotiation, payment, transport, shipping, inspections, vehicle history reports, insurance and tracking.
My Web Programmer (MWP) is a full-service software partner, capable of designing, developing, and maintaining both web and mobile applications. Our global client base includes emerging startups and established enterprises alike. Since 2008, MWP has worked on hundreds of projects for clients in more than 20 countries. Websites, mobile apps and software products designed and built by MWP have significantly contributed to the success of its clients. MWP delivers high quality solutions by combining technology expertise, proven methodologies and business domain knowledge.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I feel that the quality most important to success is the ability to be curious about everything, To look at an industry or business and think about why things are being done the way that they are and what could be done better. To not take anything for granted but instead challenge what is assumed by others and arrive at your own conclusions. To follow through on your convictions, especially when the going gets tough. Also, once you are committed to a project, you should be able to evangelize: speak passionately about it and be able to convince others to see what you are seeing as an opportunity.
