Meet Indigo Phoenix, Dontez Hazzard

Today we’d like to introduce you to Indigo Phoenix.

So, before we jump into specific questions about your music, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
For as long as I can remember Music, acting, and fashion has been a heavy part of my DNA. From a very young age, I’ve always felt the need to pursue my artistic endeavors to the fullest extent. Despite naysayers, fallen relationships, or personal doubts – I’ve always had the perseverance to push forward toward my spiritual purpose. My goal is to inspire others to be the authentic beings they were born to be! Be who you are authentically; that’s what I’m all about.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Way more struggles than triumphs, I’ll tell you that lol. Being a rising artist is not cheap! Especially when trying to pay bills and survive life. That, mixed with operating as a one-man team, has proven to be quite the task but nothing I’m not willing to face head-on! I’m an emotional creature and that’s led me to walk a lonely road. I struggle with the loneliness at times.

Can you give our readers some background on your music?
The Indigo Phoenix is an ethereal being sent to show people how to harness their power. I’m most known for my music. After making the decision to shift from a professional acting career to a professional music career, I had to start from scratch. I’m most proud of my willingness to pursue the mission without knowing the endgame. I’ve worked with Grammy – winner Chrisette Michele on my very first musical project and we’ve been flying ever since! My bold artistry and dynamic stage presence sets me apart from my peers. My main influences – Beyonce, Prince, Nina Simone, and Jill Scott, have all taught me the beauty in uniqueness and individuality.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment was my first moment – working on an entire EP with Grammy winner Chrisette Michele. I admit working with her, to begin with, I was just humbled to be in the room with such a master class in music. As I got to know her better, I realized we were equal creatives, created in love and brave enough to share our stories with the world. My artistry developed so much in my time in the studio with her but I’m most grateful that I’ve gotten to call such a sweet, beautiful spirit my friend.
