Meet Indira Jones of Brown Girls Heal Movement

Today we’d like to introduce you to Indira Jones.

Hi Indira, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
On May 13, 19** in Silver Springs, Maryland a baby was born. A baby with no limitations, no fears, no worries, just simply being. Somewhere along the lines things changed and that baby not only had limitations, fear, & worries but a list that was so long it defined her. I’m not sure when that list formed maybe it was when my mother committed suicide, or maybe when I was a nomad and never had a permanent resident, or maybe it was while I was in an abusive relationship. I can’t tell you when it began but I can sure tell you when that baby was no longer identified by her list but by her name…Indira!

In 2018, I created a blog titled “Being Indira” to get my voice! I almost wanted to say get my voice back but that would have to imply I had one to begin with. I created this blog to stand in my truth. It’s amazing how much we as women try to keep everything inside to portray we have it all together. You’d be surprised how many women grow through the same thing as you. I quickly learned that MY story was also HER story, & HER story, & even HER story. What I thought would be a simple blog became a safe haven for women. I began hosting brunches, & retreats catered to helping women turn their broken pieces into a masterpiece. I started off by working locally in my hometown Atlanta, GA where I had the opportunity to impact women all over. I began expanding my business internationally impacting women in Canada, Colombia, Ukraine & more. With 4 years of coaching under my belt, a degree in Psychology, & certified through real life sh*t it was time for that baby to scratch off the last thing on her list…LIMITATIONS!

The product of no limitations created Brown Girls Heal Movement! A space where women of color can bridge the gap of who they are and the woman they want to become through the healing of childhood trauma.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has been the furthest thing from a smooth ride, the hardest struggle along the way was myself. Don’t get me wrong you face temporary obstacles such as gaining capital, marketing, obtaining & maintaining clients, however even after gaining all of those things it will mean nothing if you don’t get out of your own way. I spent the first year if not 2 years of my business drowning in self-doubt. I would mimic my business to mirror those on social media who I deemed successful. Yet I would never find success that way, so I would assume that would mean to take a break. My break would turn into months, and once it lasted a year which is when I realized I wasn’t on a break I was running from my own potential. I had to learn that just because I had someone else’s ingredients doesn’t mean it will turn out the same. I decided to make my own recipe which allowed me to decide what did and didn’t work for me. Fail forward and never stop. The more I showed up for me the more Brown Girls Heal Movement began to grow.

If I could advise anyone who has a dream that has not yet come true it would be to wake up. The dream feels good, & sounds promising but dreams come when you sleeping. Stop sleeping on yourself and make your dreams a reality.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am the Founder and CEO of Brown Girls Heal Movement also known as BGH. BGH is a space for women of color to bridge the gap of who they are and the woman they want to become through the healing of childhood trauma.
I’m known as the Trauma Healing Guru as I help women get in the ring to face their toughest battle ever which is you -vs- you to heal your inner little girl so that that version doesn’t have to fight anymore.

The thing that sets me apart is that I use my life experiences such as evictions, being thrown through a wall at eight months pregnant by my child’s father, & being sexually assaulted by my cousin to guide woman in knowing that your past does not have to define you, rather you define it.

The thing that I am most proud of is my Brown Girls Heal Healing Guide. The BGH Healing guide is a self-guided book filled with intense exercises to help you work through your trauma and let go of the things that you can’t control. The BGH Healing Guide is offered in hardback, paper back, & digital. Start your healing today!

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
Luck has played no role in my life nor business. In the words of Nicki Minaj “No. I’m not lucky, I’m blessed. Yes” God is all up in my life and business I wouldn’t be here today writing this magazine article if it weren’t for GOD.
