Today we’d like to introduce you to Isaiah Anthony.
Hi Isaiah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I’m Isaiah Anthony, and I’m from Los Angeles, CA. Well, South Central LA if you want to be technical. WATTS if you want to be exact! As a child, I knew I always wanted to be an actor. I bet you want to know how that happened right? So let’s get started. During my Junior year of highschool, I needed an extra class in order to continue my basketball career. My older brother would try to convince me to join the Theatre class, but I refused because I wasn’t a “Theatre Kid”. It did take a lot of persuasion, but let’s just say it was the best decision of my life. I still didn’t take it seriously though. Basketball was my life, and making it overseas was the goal, but that quickly changed when I had a heart attack and a mini stroke at the age of 19. That closed the basketball door for good, and 2 years later, god reopened the acting door, and I NEVER LOOKED BACK.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One thing about being in this industry and this world is that you have to be okay with constructive criticism. You will be told “No” a lot, but you can’t let it bother you and you most definitely cannot quit. I’ve been told “NO” so many times, but that makes me want to prove everybody wrong and quitting isn’t an option for me. Never have and never will be and that makes me want to get DEEP in my bag. I truly believe that if it was a smooth road, I wouldn’t enjoy it as much as I do. I love being challenged. Being the underdog is what makes THIS exciting. Learning, taking classes, and finding who you are is what makes this worth it. Auditioning is our competition, and I never run away from a challenge. So to answer your question, this road and business is extremely hard, but very fun and exciting.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar with what you do, what can you tell them about what you do?
My field consists of taking classes, having an agent or manager, mingling, auditioning, and booking. I’m an actor who’s been doing it professionally for only 4 and a half years, and I’ve come this far so let’s keep it coming! Out of all the projects I’ve booked, I’m most proud of the play I recently booked named “ColorBlind.” Booking this play brought me back to that theatre stage that I was missing. Y’all staying with me? Remember, I was never a “Theatre Kid” and I ended up falling in love with it and became a “Theatre Kid”. Crazy right? I like to say that I’m a “one of a kind” man because of how I was raised and what I went through to get to where I’m currently standing. A lot of people can say that, but in my world, actions speak louder than words. I, Isaiah Anthony, am an action person. Words are just words. My words are bond.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out.
My advice to everyone who’s thinking about pursuing acting is to believe in yourself, have confidence, and TAKE CLASSES. As for me, I’m a firm believer in “everything happens for a reason,” so because of that, I don’t wish for anything different. God works in mysterious ways, and I’ll always follow his path. This last piece of information is off topic, but my advice to everyone who’s struggling with life in general, is to talk to somebody if you need to. Trust me, it will help you in the long run.
