Today we’d like to introduce you to iVillage@MLK.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Announced in December 2017, iVillage @ MLK houses eight small businesses that are expected to create approximately 20-25 jobs along MLK Drive. The shipping container development is designed to give small businesses the opportunity to grow and scale in an underserved community. By providing an affordable, transit-oriented office and retail option for local entrepreneurs, iVillage @ MLK aims to create a unique, equitable opportunity for entrepreneurs who are interested in starting a business in the City of Atlanta.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
iVillage@MLK was created for the community and due to the pandemic, iVillage has temporarily closed. The park currently houses five businesses ranging from a black-owned floral shop, chocolatier, lifestyle makers, and an architectural company. We believe these businesses can bring the current community together and bring great opportunities for the MLK Corridor.

iVillage @ MLK is part of the City of Atlanta’s larger effort to continue investing in Westside communities, especially along the MLK Drive Corridor. In 2016, the city was awarded a $10 million TIGER grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to help improve MLK Drive. That grant is part of a $22.7 million effort to improve mobility and increase access to transit, employment centers, and services along MLK.
iVillage @ MLK houses the following businesses:
FLR-PLN (@flrpln) – Pronounced (floor plan) a retail concept that currently houses 12 emerging women-owned beauty brands from around the country.
Royal Petals ATL (@royalpetalsatl) – Royal Petals is the birth of a movement to color and revitalize the human spirit through botanical enhancement. We are a team of three florists dedicated to the art of creative endeavors, professionalism, and service.
Fruity Ice and Treats (@fruityiceandtreats) – A mobile Italian ice vendor and custom sweet treats caterer.
Atelier 7 (@atelier7llc) – An architecture for public and private realms.
Ateaelle (@ateaelle) – Ateaelle (Pronounced A-T-L) Is An urban lifestyle and fashion company creating apparel and brand experiences that blend messages rooted in black excellence, pop culture, hip hop, and the entrepreneurial reverence of Atlanta, GA. Our goal is to create a sense of nostalgia while evoking conversation and continued adoration throughout the city.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We have a number of businesses located at iVillage and we believe everyone has their own story to share. We understand business can be difficult. Atlanta has a strong business community that allows small businesses to continue to grow together. iVillage once opened to the public will be louder than ever. Everything happens for a reason.
