Meet Angela Ragsdale of Ivory Thread

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angela Ragsdale.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The concept of Ivory Thread came about years ago but it was never the right location, time, or insert whatever wrong reason you’d like here – ha! I did what most do, I went to college, got a degree in something I enjoyed and went to work teaching and coaching for over three years. I became a stay at home mom when our daughter was born but as she was getting older and more independent, I knew I wanted more for myself.

I wanted to create, provide and contribute to not only my family but to my community. Being a loyal boutique shopper myself, I had envisioned exactly how I would design a store of my own on more than one occasion. After losing my father last August, I reevaluated the outlook of my future and wondered what I was waiting for. Life is short so I took the leap to open my own store.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Once I made the decision to open the store after finding what I thought was the perfect location, my husband and I had a long chat that if negotiations of the property, planning, buying, etc all went smoothly (basically all doors wide open) then it was meant to be.

If it wasn’t meant to be, we asked God to close those doors quickly so we would know without a doubt that it wasn’t the right thing for us to do. It went as smoothly as we could have ever hoped for and the community/customers have really welcomed us with open arms.

Ivory Thread – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I think what we hear the most, which in turn makes us very proud, is that we carry really unique pieces. We’ve heard that other boutiques carry some of the brands we do but that the pieces we choose are totally different from what our customers have seen. Another part of Ivory Thread that we are very passionate about is sourcing local items when we can.

Obviously, many of the clothes that we buy come from vendors out in California but almost all the jewelry we carry is from local artists/companies as well as all art is from local artists. Ivory Thread is a boho meets classic type of store and we’re very proud of that.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I think one of the biggest ways I see success for Ivory Thread is the repeat customer and women feeling confident in what they just purchased from us.
