Meet Jaclyne Roe of Suburban Skin & Body

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaclyne Roe.

Jaclyne, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I always saw my parents work very hard- full-time jobs and being entrepreneurs on the side. It’s funny now that I actually describe it, I can see where I get it from. I helped my parents often with their side jobs- from home repairs and gardening to catering and even selling candles and other home goods. I stumbled into my first job in the spa industry when I was still in high school. I worked evenings and weekends so I could save up for a summer abroad trip. I found this little spa in the yellow pages. For over a decade, I worked in the spa industry, absorbing everything I could. My real passion is taking care of people, and finding a career in wellness is the perfect way for me to do that. One experience can change someone’s life in my business.

Like everyone else, I learned many things the hard way. There was always hardship and stress, but also joy and immense growth. I spent most of my early career as a young mom and student as well. I look back on those years in disbelief of how I made it through. It wasn’t without support- and even so, it was entirely exhausting. My career consisted of taking struggling businesses- big and small- and reviving them. How did I do it? Quite simply, support. My curiosity and penchant for fixing things allowed me to get into the bones of a business and rebuild it from the most minute detail. Sometimes rather quickly, a transformation happened. Using all that I learned, I’ve developed three businesses. A spa concept, a luxury mobile spa concierge service, and a consulting company. It feels like these concepts really developed and sort of materialized all at once. Despite the many people who have dismissed me, underestimated me, and turned their backs on me, I feel empowered. And I owe it to the people that have always believed in me and gave me the confidence every day to keep going. And I owe it to myself for owning up to my identity as a leader and someone who thrives in serving others.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Growth doesn’t come with an easy life. I grew from many personal challenges such as my short marriage, divorcing at 21. I also had my son at 20, adding mom to my resume. I never planned my life how it was going, but I always woke up knowing I was going to keep working hard and stay optimistic. So much of it seems like a blur. I felt like things finally slowed down when I finished my degree in my early 20s. I think the exhaustion of going to school full time, working full time, and being a single mother just erased the concept of time. During this time, I was managing a multi-location business. Working at least 50 hours a week and commuting an hour each way. I felt stuck and tired and like life was just passing me by. I would fall asleep in the middle of working on school assignments. My body and mind literally could not take anymore and would shut down. As soon as I finished my degree, it was like a veil was lifted. It’s as if I was waking up. I literally could see colors brighter. The stifling pressure of being a student was finally over. Throughout my career, I’ve never showed up just to do the job given. I always showed up for the job I wanted it to be – always more than what was expected. The tough part is, I walked away from most of my jobs feeling under-appreciated. I’m a giver to a fault.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Suburban Skin & Body?
We believe that your experience should be 5 star- even in your own home. Most people find mobile services are sub-par and inconsistent quality. We transform any space into a retreat with customized aromatherapy, soothing music and plush linens. Not only do we use the highest quality of spa products and devices, our therapists are top industry professionals with years of experience. Our services include massages and facials with enhancements you’d find in the best spas. Hydro-derm, dermaplaning, peels, hot stones and CBD to name a few!

We also work with many luxury hotels in Atlanta to provide in-room services.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Traditional is not my forte. My curiosity and sense of adventure go way back. My mom always said I asked a lot of questions. I wanted to know how everything worked. I loved to play outside, climbing trees and building forts. Your imagination can really run wild in the outdoors. I’ve seen beautiful things like waterfalls and caves and climbed mountains. I also love food. I’ll make a meal of anything you give me, but I also love to try amazing food from all over the world. Then there’s fashion- I always imagined having a clothing line. Something I’ve never really pursued honestly out of self-doubt. But, there’s always the dream!

I was extremely shy up to high school. I knew that to be successful, I had to learn to be in front of a crowd. So I forced myself into public speaking so that I could get over my fears. Well, it took a bit of trial and error, but it worked!
