Meet Jacobe Grant of Fort Lauderdale

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacobe Grant.

Jacobe Grant

Hi Jacobe, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I grew up around entrepreneurship—my parents owned businesses, so working for myself always felt natural. I was raised in Pompano Beach, Florida, and started working at 15, juggling two jobs in high school and becoming a lead trainer at Chick-fil-A.

After graduating in 2020, I went to FAMU during the height of COVID. With everything online and no jobs available, I struggled financially and mentally. That’s when I decided to find something I genuinely enjoyed. I’d always sketched and loved tattoos, so I bought a $60 kit from Amazon, tattooed myself, and kept practicing on friends until I started getting clients.

I got my real estate license to make extra money, but after closing a deal and seeing how little I actually took home, I knew tattooing had more potential for me. In July of 2022 I had lost my dad to cancer. I ended up moving back to Broward county, I didn’t finish school I focused on my work, and my clientele grew fast. I went from tattooing in my mom’s house to having my own private suite.

By the end of 2024, I was fully booked, and in January 2025 I upgraded to a bigger suite. Tattooing has taken me further than I ever expected—I even traveled to seven countries in 2025. What started as a $60 experiment turned into my career.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It wasn’t a smooth road losing my dad during this time was Definitely one of the toughest challenges I’ve faced, and I was also starting college during COVID which made it hard to find work, so I was depending on financial aid and credit cards to get by & When I started tatting, I wasn’t making much. Even real estate wasn’t helping because it was commission based and my commission splits were so low, but moving back home and rebuilding I had a lot of people that were supportive so i was able to stay consistent, and that definitely helped me grow.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a tattoo artist and the owner of Cobetatted. I specialize in clean, detailed black and gray tattoos and creating a comfortable, professional experience for my clients. What sets me apart is my work ethic, the quality I put into every tattoo, and the way I connect with my clients. I treat every piece like it represents my brand, and I want people to feel that when they sit in my chair.

Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
My advice is to surround yourself with people you want to learn from. Once I started investing in myself, I took courses, joined teams, and went to tattoo conventions and symposiums. Just by showing up and being myself, I connected with artists I looked up to, like Jessie Smith and Deanna James from Ink Master, and learned a lot from their experience.
