Meet Jacqueline Ciulla of Jacqueline’s Hair Studio in Roswell

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Ciulla.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a born and raised New York City girl at 17 years old I decided I needed a change in my life, thats when I took a huge leap of faith and moved to Woodstock, Georgia. Since I was a young girl, I always loved fashion, beauty, cosmetics and hair. I decided at 17 to find a way to blend all the things I loved, thats when I decided to look into hair schools and decided on Paul Mitchell.

The second I stepped in there I knew this was what I was made to do. After completing my 1,500 hours I was driven to find my salon home as that was what I was told to do, I interviewed at over 10 salons and didn’t feel like I found my right fit so I decided to get a job at a blowout bar, I never felt confident styling hair and I thought why not master this while I’m still searching for my full-service salon home, there under pressure I learned quickly how to work with many different hair types. After working there for 6 months I decided I needed to go back to my first love which was coloring hair the is when I found a job at a salon in Roswell, Georgia, my time there was great I assisted for a year, mentored with top stylist receiving top education, all my time watching helped to build my confidence as a stylist, it wasn’t until I started taking my own clients that I learned even more through my own trials and errors.

At that time balayage was just starting to take off in our industry, I would offer the service to each of my clients, I had no education background on this technique but I was determined to master it, I watched countless videos and every break I had I was practicing on my mannequin head, we didn’t even have it listed as a service at the salon at that time and I was told not to offer it because of the longevity it would not bring me income. After a year of being a full-time stylist building my clientele something inside me told me I can do this on my own, That is when I took the biggest risk in my career at 22 years old and opened up my own salon loft. I decided it was time for me to venture out on my own to give my clients the service they were asking for and expand my love for what I do, one client at a time. Since then, I have maintained being on my own for four years, I have hired an assistant and have opened my second business my bridal business The Messy Bride.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have definitely been some struggles along the way, when I first started out on my own it came with a huge responsibility and at 22 years old, I went in over my head. My first year being a stylist on my own allowed me to understand responsibility in the best way which is a positive. The biggest struggle I faced was having to hold myself accountable and finding clients I wanted to attract, when I left the corporate salon I was at I didn’t have a large clientele but something in me told me I can do this on my own, I took a huge risk spent most of my savings and told every client I had at the time that I was leaving and starting my own business.

Please tell us about Jacqueline’s Hair Studio.
My business is called Jacqueline’s Hair Studio Salon, I am a private suite salon owner and hairstylist. We offer a wide range of services including haircuts, all-over color, highlights, balayage, on location bridal hair and makeup services. Our main area of specialty is foilyage and balayage, foilyage gives your locks a more natural highlighted look and makes your roots less obvious as your natural color grows out, whereas balayage is a hand painted technique with open air processing giving your hair a more subtle sun kissed look. What sets us apart is our client longevity in between appointments and keeping their hair happy and healthy using Olaplex every step of the way.

When it comes to bridal services I specialize in bohemian style looks meaning large chunky braids, messy updos, and tousled half up looks, we also offer very natural radiant makeup giving the most skin like results. I am most proud of the growth I’ve made personally as a stylist constantly staying up to date on my education, always saying yes to every opportunity and staying true to my goals, and giving my clients the best experience always. I am most proud of the reaction and feedback I receive from each of my clients by achieving there hair color goals and knowing the impact I can make on them by transforming there look and giving them confidence. I have a deep gratitude for what I have gained and a newfound confidence in myself as a stylist. Those which are two things I have strived to do ever since taking my chance on this industry six years ago.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood was growing up in Queens, New York and spending every summer night playing tag in the streets, hanging out with all my friends on my front stoop, from swimming in pools, setting world records for the longest bike chain tied with rubber bands, and our parents being at peace knowing we were always together having a blast and not to mention the daily Steve the ice-cream man visits at 7 pm every evening.
