Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline and Joel Slater.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Jacqueline and Joel. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
We have always had a love for cars and since 1998 we have repaired them. I (Joel) graduated from Arizona Automotive Institute (AAI) and then went on to work at the Nalley Jaguar dealership of Roswell. After working there for several years I started to branch out to other makes/models and familiarized myself with foreign and domestic cars. The private sector allowed me to work on every make possible and enhanced my automotive experience. Now, there is almost no car or truck I haven’t worked on and have a lot of experience with. We opened J & J Automotive Repair & Restoration on January 1st, 2014, and have almost 300 loyal customers that enjoy our business and our service. We hope to continue and expand our business to better serve our customers and the surrounding area with good honest service and repair.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Of course, life comes with some struggle and job loss, health, and family issues are always present. We overcome them as we live and strive to do better both in our personal lives and business. We started our business with no upfront money/loans from any banks, only our money we had in savings. Still to this day, we strive on our own continuing to grow our business.
J & J Automotive Repair & Restoration – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
J&J Auto is a family owned and operated business that strives to be fair and honest in pricing our estimates. We practice truth in mechanics that simply states that we do not change labor book times or list prices from our vendors. Our profit margin stays within the difference between list and cost prices. The customer does not pay more than they are required to have their vehicle(s) repaired. We make sure that everything is done with transparency and clarity. J & J Auto specializes in European automobiles but works on all makes and models. We are known for getting down to the root cause of driveability problems. This ensures that we find the main problems of the vehicle that causes the vehicle to not be in a state of reliability and driveability.
We are very proud of the fact that we are considered a small business but our reputation of being good people with good reliable service is becoming larger and larger.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
When it comes to luck we don’t believe in luck, but we do believe in working hard to make things happen for yourself and striving to achieve the goals that we have set. When bad situations come around you have to deal with them accordingly and find a way to handle them with care, responsibility, and a little bit of faith never hurts either. Any downfalls we have had we have used them as opportunities to learn how to not make those same mistakes in the future.
