Meet Jaden Stephens of Jaden Nichol Photography

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jaden Stephens.

Jaden, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always had a huge passion for creating, from fashion design to sketching. When I was a kid, I knew no matter what I did I never wanted to stop creating. So, when I got my first camera it seemed like a perfect fit. My first camera was actually my iPhone. It felt great! I felt like I could capture any and all of my interests and make my own reality. Even when I finally got a DSLR after years of begging, I still had to secretly edit my photos on my phone. Either way I didn’t care what equipment I had; I just knew I was grateful to be shooting with anything as long as I could keep shooting. Having to work with what I have has allowed me to come really far in my career and skill level.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Photography is definitely not a smooth rode but it is a fulfilling one. At times it does seem hard to not attach yourself your work. I mean it’s like your kid. You birth an idea nurture it and release it into the world. Sometimes it’s isn’t loved. That used to crush me. When a client didn’t love every photo in their set or a concept didn’t get an insane amount of likes. It definitely took time to accept that I am doing this for me and it’s not to impress anyone else. In order to grow it’s important to showcase who you are in your craft without making your work who you are. Because the moment someone tears down your work, essentially it feels like you’re being torn apart too.

Jaden Nichol Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a freelance photographer who specializes in editorial photographer. I am known for my creative concepts and my retouching abilities. I think what sets me apart from others is my ability to have fun on set. I will go above and beyond to make the model(s) comfortable and get that shot. I will talk and communicate with models and clients and ask them what they think and incorporate it into the shoot. I’m willing do something silly, jump up and down, even dance to get something genuine.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I think the proudest moment of my life was when my grandma wanted me to send her some of my work for her to put up. She has always support me. Even when I was doing random doodles as a kid, she always told me I was amazing. I really started to notice around that time that my work was reaching my external family and they saw as more than hobby.
