Today we’d like to introduce you to Jai Johnson.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’m originally from North Little Rock, Arkansas. A place full of potential but’s place of limited opportunities. After graduating college in 2015, a passion for a talk show resurfaced and I quickly began seeking people who had personality so I contacted my two friends Jacqueline Morgane @_jbm_ and May Gayden @Eyesondiva & together we formed @TheMelaninPot.
We started this show three years ago in my living recording on a blank wall, bad lighting a blurry camera and a dream. Here we are now three years later breaking down doors and barriers promoting black-owned businesses and a true voice in our communities. Last year we moved to Atlanta to expand the brand and we are so excited to collaborate with new guest and see all the peachy state has to offer us. Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road hasn’t been easy none of us are rich and we pay for everything to bring the show together out of pocket from location, videographer, promotion. Everything is done by us. It’s a struggle at times to invest so much into a dream but somehow God provides and we get it done. We know we have a responsible to keep doing what we’re doing and we can’t stop.
Another struggle that we’ve had is simply finding balance to make sure other endeavors of the group are being manifested but not at the expense of the show and our personal lives.
Please tell us about The Melanin Pot.
@TheMelaninPot. A talk show that sheds lights on hot topics, entertainment, music, politics, lifestyle from the millennials point of view. So many times people believe that people of color think the same but that is so far from the truth. So we use our platform to bring awareness to causes, topics, and ways of light to positively impacts others. Some days you may laugh, cry or even be inspired by something that’s said or done.
There is no show that has a cast of all millennials or people of color. Also, our chemistry is like no other unlike other shows chemistry is created but we are friends first and we don’t always agree but that’s what makes it the more entertaining. We are raw, honest, respectful individuals giving it to ya the way we see it.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I honestly can’t say that I would do anything differently. Everything we have done so far has brought us to this moment every bump has been beneficial. And I believe the hardships of life make you appreciate greatness once it’s obtained. Hard work is about to pay off and The Melanin Pot is coming to collect.
