Today we’d like to introduce you to Jair Elliott.
Jair, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a creative, I found an interest in media art when I turned 13. I started rapping with the little equipment I had around the house. I rapped, produced and engineered music up until I was about 16 seriously. I had released a good amount of music and a lot of people liked it but it really wasn’t my passion. I always was very much into film and music videos. I would often watched very aesthetically pleasing videos while I was in high school that would put me into my own world and I truly loved it. I would often listen to music and close my eyes and picture what a video would be like to this song and it hit me that I should start shooting music videos. Throughout high school, I would I always say I wasn’t going to college until the following semester after I graduated than I realized why not go to college for film. That was when I decided to begin investing in myself and began purchasing equipment and I would practice shooting with my friends and eventually found a passion for photography as well.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s been up and down. My mental make-up is somewhat of a perfectionist. I feel I am and can be the greatest at whatever I have a passion for just based off the way my mind works. Yet certain ideas I would have would not come out how I wanted them to and it’s kind of demoralizing. I also don’t like my ideas being simplified, I’m very confident in my creativity.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business is L$D Films, it is a media art business that specializes in photography and cinematography. I’m somewhat at the beginning stages of my company yet I have a lot of things established along with a lot of contributors to the company. I love the creativity and range of my company. I don’t really have a template of what I’m trying to be like because I want to be as original as possible while not being compared to any other companies or creatives. I am also interested in expanding to all sorts of businesses in and outside of the media art realm.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Absolutely, Atlanta is full of a realm of possibilities and opportunities. The city is so unpredictable but that’s what makes it what it is that’s why the actual show Atlanta is so good. There are so many creatives and artists throughout the city, you legit have endless opportunities.
