Meet Jalen Collins of Snaps By Jalen in Norcross

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalen Collins.

Jalen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’ve always had a love for photography even at a very young age. I was maybe 5 or 6 when I picked up my first camera and since then I’ve been hooked. Now I am 21 and been doing photography for over 15 years and don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I ran into the same problems any artist-run into where you downplay your own abilities based off what you see others doing. I felt as if I wasn’t able to compete with other photographers. That kinda kept me from really posting my work anywhere like on social media I would just keep everything to myself. It wasn’t until I was in high school and took a photography class my junior year where I found to really be confident in my work regardless of what others may say or feel. You just shut out the world around you and just do whatever makes you happy at the end of the day.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Snaps By Jalen – what should we know?
I specialize in all types of camera work whether its photography, videography or even behind the scenes. I want to eventually branch off into the fashion scene with not only capturing the best moments with my camera but also one day even having my own clothing line to showcase as well. The sky is the limit and I won’t settle for anything less at this point. At the end of the day, I just want to be able to show the world everything I can do because I have so much creativity to show. Mark my words this is only the beginning.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Of course, Atlanta is one of the greatest cities in America. I owe so much to it at the end of the day. Talent floods the streets and offers so many opportunities for anyone to really make a name for themselves; it just comes down to your work ethic. I say this because there’s a lot of great talent and competition. It’s up to you really to set yourself apart from others and really make someone a believer in what you can do.
