Meet Jalen Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jalen Harris.

Jalen, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My whole life, I would say, got me to where I am today. Athletics and sports have been a great passion of mine since I first gained interest. I participated in various rec league sports such as soccer, basketball, track, and field. I was a varsity athlete at Stockbridge High school but I didn’t sign with a college, unfortunately. Me not signing with a school put me in a predicament of not really knowing what I wanted to do after having one real main goal of playing college football. I went through my first two years in college at Mississippi State before it hit me and I realized talking sports and analyzing it is my passion. My father, brother, and I would always have discussions with sports and it made me think I can do this as a career. During the last couple of months of 2019 and 2020, I made a plan to start my podcast with lots of encouragement and ideas.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it hasn’t been a smooth road so far with my podcast. Talking on a microphone for 30 plus minutes takes a big adjustment. Being comfortable takes practice and understanding of the topic. I have to understand that I’m not going to be perfect every time and have to ease my expectations of trying to be great as professionals in their media career already. Another big struggle has been with my views and constant support. I have come to understand that developing an audience takes time and patience. I just have to keep striving and creating good content for listeners.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I have a weekly sports podcast that goes over weekly sports news and topics. I look over various sports such as football, basketball, tennis, track, and field, etc. I am most proud of my podcast because I feel like it is an extension of me. I can put all of my interest and passion into each episode. I feel like my podcast is different from others because of youth and the topics I discuss. Few podcasts talk about the topics I discuss and if they do, they are not independent like mine.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My future plans are to work in the sports media field. I want to build my podcast along with my career. I plan to record video of my podcast and also stream live. I am looking forward to having a bigger audience and having professional athletes come on my podcast and talk about their stories. I want to build a brand with my podcast as I look forward to the future. I want my podcast to become a household name. I am looking forward to collaborating with some big names in the media and podcasting industry. I want to create a podcast series with guest athletes as they progress in their careers and seasons.
