Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamarrion Tabor.
Jamarrion, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m married to my high school sweetheart, four children and a Navy Veteran. My husband and I moved to Atlanta in 2015 from Chicago. We moved to provide a better life for our children. I had a big idea to start a home daycare, but I didn’t have the funds. I used the last $200.00 that I had to purchase toys and started to market on craigslist. I was blessed because my home daycare grew very fast. I was able to take my income tax return and open a 10,000 sq ft Childcare Center in September of 2016. My center is named after my mother, Madalyn’s whom passed away in 2014. My mom struggled with drug abuse and was never able to live her dream, my goal is to make Madalyn’s House a household name in my community, we strive to provide excellent and affordable childcare. Madalyn’s House offers 24 childcare, seven days a week.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
NO!! I started my home daycare with $200. One year later, I used my $6000.00 tax return and opened a 10,000 sqft childcare center with no experience in running a center that large, no money saved. I went through staff after staff, mismanaged money. I almost lost everything in 2018 due to poor leadership! In 2019 I invested in a Childcare Coach, since that time, my revenue has increased by 54%, my center became Quality Rated and we have a low turnover rate with staff.
Please tell us about Madalyn’s House Childcare Center.
We are a 24 hour 7 days a week childcare center. We are the only Childcare Center in Cobb County that is open 24 hours 7 days a week. We are known for our bright colors and inviting environment. Our center houses an Arcade and an on-site candy store.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would have saved money. Starting a business is not east and its harder if you don’t have enough money saved.
