Meet Jamecia Bowers of Beauty by Bowers Day Spa in Tucker

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamecia Bowers.

Jamecia, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I became an aesthetician sort of accidentally. I have a degree in Biology from Florida A & M University and my intention was to become a dentist like my father. After graduating from college, I worked for my dad as his dental assistant and also took post-baccalaureate graduate classes at Georgia State University. However, I began taking more of an interest in makeup and decided that before applying to dental school I would like to learn more about my hobby. So, I enrolled in the International School of Skin, Nail Care, and Massage and obtained my license in Aesthetics in 2011. I completely fell in love with aesthetics and the beauty industry, and it went along with my biology background as well. During this time I began working part time for a holistic aesthetician and also assisting and interning with a celebrity makeup artist. My father has a solo dental practice. The back of the office was empty and only being used for storage. He worked three days each week and offered the unused area of the office for the location of Beauty by Bowers Day Spa. In September 2012 the Bowers Dental Center & Spa, Inc. partnership was born. It has been a blessing and privilege to be an entrepreneur at Beauty by Bowers Day Spa and partnering with my dad the past 4 years.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being an entrepreneur is extremely rewarding but it can also be very tough. Everything whether good or bad falls directly on your shoulders. You constantly have to come up with new and fresh ideas to create revenue and business is not always naturally nor constantly booming. You need money to make money and that can be difficult when things are slow and especially in the beginning stages. Standing out as a small business takes a lot of work and constant dedication. Though it is certainly a challenging task, the rewards far out way the obstacles.

Please tell us about Beauty by Bowers Day Spa.
Beauty by Bowers is a day spa located in Tucker, Georgia. It is a division of Bowers Dental Center & Spa, Inc. We perform skin care (facials and body treatments), waxing, makeup and semi-permanent eyelash extension services. I am so proud that my community day spa has the opportunity to help our clients look and feel their best. I am certified in semi-permanent eyelash extensions and I specialize in event makeup. My favorite makeup to apply is for photography. Skin care is not only my career but my passion. I love treating my clients to their own personal vacation for an hour. I have the opportunity to give my clients a personal pampering, a break from the hustle of their daily lives and also providing them with a familiar yet professional environment.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
My favorite memory from childhood is spending Christmas in Alaska with my parents. At 3 years old that is where I received my favorite Christmas gift ever, a little red tricycle.
