Meet James Ro of Atlanta Run Club

Today we’d like to introduce you to James Ro.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Atlanta Run Club began as an initiative of friends trying to change our community. We decided to host a local pop-up run in Duluth, GA, and things started to build from there.

We eventually expanded to multiple areas, including Doraville, Midtown, Buckhead, and Grant Park. Our runs continually got exposed, and we were able to partner up with different brands and businesses.

The growth would not have been possible without the support of friends and all the runners.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Although we experienced a lot of pros and ups, there were definitely a vast amount of downs along the way. We were put in some difficult situations when we tried to plan larger events for bigger crowds. These events included social runs and gatherings, which required some cost.

Because we were both a young (started summer 2018) and community-focused organization, we didn’t have the luxury to cover things such as food, drinks, etc.

Thankfully, a lot of businesses believed in our vision, and we were able to get some items sponsored thus far. Up to this day, we try our best to stick to our vision and manifesto, as other groups/people will hopefully invest in us!

Atlanta Run Club – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a social, pop-up run club in Atlanta, GA. We gather people to run, and we socialize before and after. We don’t have the weekly run format as most other run clubs but are more spontaneous in nature. But we are definitely similar to other clubs, in that we are trying to promote health and fitness through running. We are all in this together!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success to me is when the outcomes are being produced naturally and organically. I think a lot of times we like to strive for the end product, whether that be numbers, money, or fame. However, I believe there is more value in getting the process right.

Success to me is when we don’t take shortcuts, giving it everything we have, invest our time into people, and have a lot of fun doing so. In regards to Atlanta Run Club, our “success” goal from the beginning was simple- just run, and opportunities will come!
