Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamil Clark.
Hi Jamil, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Sweeping Atlanta Cleaning was founded in 1996 by my mother. My mother eventually went into the medical field and stopped cleaning altogether.
The business was revamped in 2017 by myself (Jamil Clark). I always loved cleaning and was doing it at an early age in life. When I was in middle school, I use to clean for the elderly in my apartments for $25. I mostly did the kitchen, bathroom and took out trash at that time. It grew so fast that when I got off the bus one day I had four ladies waiting on me to ask if I could help them.
Fast forward, I grew older and eventually got a job working for a big retail company in 2012. In 2016 I lost that job and struggled to pay my bills so I went from job to job searching for a passion in something. One day, I was on the phone with my mom and I asked her “Mom what do you think I’m good at doing?” she replied “You really good at cleaning!” So I started researching how to start a cleaning service and what I needed. My mom look up her old business name to see if she still owned the domain.
She repurchased the name and I ran with it. I started posting on Facebook everyday and in Airbnb groups. I eventually got a break where someone asked me to clean there Airbnb and I was so excited. I went to my first cleaning not knowing that I would be getting referrals left and right. I had learned so much and was in love with what I was doing. I’ve cleaned so many places today from Airbnb, residential and commercial. My business is based out of Atlanta, Georgia and has now expanded to Alabama.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting a cleaning business has not been a smooth road at all. I struggled on the business side for a while. When juggling your business and personal life can sometimes get mixed up. I knew how to clean but wasn’t good at running a business. I’ve learned that you have to be consistent and never take anything personal. Treat your clients correctly and always be truthful. Nobody was given a guide on how to do things because everyone’s ways are totally different. Over the years I’ve learned what to do and now everything is more smoother.

When we clean, we actually do everything listed and our work speaks for itself which sets us apart from everybody. Our branding is surrounded by my background of growing up in Atlanta. When you see our name it symbolizes the peach which is Georgia’s very own fruit. Georgia’s peach is the most highest quality fruit and our work is just that as well. We offer deep cleanings which are better known as “Sweepers Special” and routine cleanings better known as “Oh So Peachy”.
What are your plans for the future?
Sweeping Atlanta Cleaning will expand in two states this year with employees. We will provide quality work where employees are trained so well you would think the owner was cleaning for you. We are planning on teaming up with schools hosting hygiene events and giving back to our communities.
