Meet Jan Bolgla of Brookhaven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jan Bolgla

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
The store opened in 1988 and has been in the same location on Clairmont Road since then.
My husband and I purchased it 2007 and every year gets better and better.
We have a vast collection – over 80,000 books!
We carefully curate each section and our customers come back again and again to see what’s new.
Our location is centrally located for all of Metro Atlanta – in the vibrant and popular Brookhaven/Chamblee community.
Our cats are very popular. Big Boo, Little Boo and Mickey are a huge part of our bookstore family.
Most importantly, we are a welcoming environment with helpful, knowledgeable employees.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
When the Kindle first came out we were wondering if it might effect our sales. But booklovers – especially people that shop in an independent bookstore – are a special breed! Books are forever, and we are stronger than ever!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
One of the most special things about our store is the extensive selection of books in all genres and subjects.
We offer everything from everyday reading copies to collectible First Editions and signed copies.
Our huge History Room is very popular. Our Radical Literature section is unique. And our Ephemera section is filled with vintage magazines, newspapers, photographs and other rare pieces of history.

What matters most to you?
I want to be sure that our store is a welcoming place for everyone. We know that an open mind and the power that comes from knowledge – from books – is the key to making this world a better place.
