Meet Janelle Wright

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janelle Wright a.k.a. black.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Well, I started back in 2008 after a long period of just not know what I was doing with my life. I’ve met with an opportunity to work as a freelance makeup artist in a salon in midtown. Spoil opulence was the name of the salon owned by Beautii Joseph. I started with no prior professional training. In a short time, I work and gained experience by doing photoshoot weddings and whatever I could do. Once I moved to LA in 2010, I then started to really perfect face me fierce. I became professionally trained in both cosmetology and in makeup artistry. My time spent in Los Angeles allowed me to gain major billboards magazine work TV appearances and a few celebrities under my belt. After a five year run, I moved back to Atlanta GA. For the past five years, I have been really working on being a better artist and creative.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It had never been an easy road for me I wish. The saying is the same nothing worth having is easy to get. I was so new in business when I started with Beauii. What lead me to move to LA was me losing everything due to no clients, no money. I was giving a second chance in LA. Little did I know, that I would be homeless in skid row. Clients never knew that’s where I lived while on set working and doing my thing. Coming back to Ga late 2014 was even hard. I have to completely rebuild my entire client here in Atlanta. Hey, we are still here thank the Lord.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the face me fierce story. Tell us more about the business.
So, face me fierce is pretty much a one-woman glam squad. One can hire me for hair or for makeup even for fashion styling. I am a one-stop creative. I specialize in editorial photography and event styling. Nothing basic but everything fab is my motto. I can go from the darkest black woman to the fairest avian woman. My skill has range out of this world. One night, I can style for an African theme shoot to the next hour styling a sweet 16 for Caucasian teen.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Really don’t think luck had anything to do with all the success I have had. One thing I can say I have had favor from God. Man, I owe all my glory to God for sure. Not luck but pure favor.

Pricing:

  • for example, a non-celebrity client can book me for a shoot $250.oo that includes full style and application. also, touch up and makeup and hair changes.
