Meet Janet Fix of thewordverve

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Fix.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Janet. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been a “word” fanatic for as long as I can remember. Books, books, and more books. Writing, editing . . . you name it. In 2010, I decided to put that passion (ahem, VERVE) to the test and focus solely on the industry I so love: publishing.

Having grown up in a home filled with entrepreneurial spirit, and with some experience of my own in running a successful business in the medical transcription field for many years, I knew I could give authors a champion for their cause.

Now, eight years later, I am blessed beyond measure to work with some of the finest writers on the planet. Thanks to my associates in design, illustration, editing, and marketing, we’ve become a tight-knit team who believes in providing an author with the most positive experience possible. We are a hybrid publisher and a traditional publisher, depending on what’s best for both the author and the company.

We also work with countless best-selling self-published authors with a la carte editing and design services. Without a doubt, this is my dream come true.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I definitely would not describe anything in the publishing industry as “smooth.” Ha! But it has always been a pleasure, with little drama and lots of satisfaction. Lots of learning, too. We are constantly adjusting our methods to meet the current trends in the industry. Every author is different as well. We try not to be cookie-cutter. When people work with the word verve, I think they experience a personal relationship that few other such businesses can offer. Because we’re insane that way.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
VERVE. Passion. Without that, we’d be just another indie publisher trying to make a buck. And that’s not what is most important to our success–the immediate buck. Keeping the love alive, so to speak, is the secret to success. We view things for the long haul and encourage our authors to do the same, never allowing the passion to dwindle.

The hours and days and months that go into writing, editing, and publishing a book are no small feat. And that’s only the beginning. Then you have to find your audience, engage with that audience, become a more public person than you may have been before.

We want to be that champion for our authors as they go through the grueling process.

I’ve worked for you, beside you and occasionally against you for decades. You are an excellent business woman and your passion for your work is evident even from just walking through your front door.
