Today we’d like to introduce you to Janeth Munoz
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I come from a very poor, low-income family of immigrant parents. We moved around a lot when I was younger for various reasons. One thing I will cherish forever from my childhood is how much my mom prioritized documenting both the little and big moments in our lives. She never had enough money to purchase a fancy camera, but she would buy disposable cameras that were sold at just about any store. It was always so exciting to take those films to get developed.
I’ve always had a passion for photography and capturing everything (my full storage can attest to that).
Despite my passion for photography, I never felt good enough to pursue it or start my own business.
Luckily, I have a wonderful husband who has always believed in me and supported everything I do. In 2021, he bought me a camera for Christmas, but at first, I was too scared to use it. The learning curve was steep. In 2022, we had our fist child, and time felt so limited that I put the camera aside and barely used it. Eventually, I started taking pictures of her and kept practicing. By 2023, I finally felt confident enough to start my own business, and I’m so glad I did. I often look back and think, ‘I wish I’d started sooner.’ But honestly, there’s no better time than now.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some aspects have been smoother than others. I have a toddler who will always come before my business and it’s hard to balance work and my child at times.
On the other hand, I have learned that photography comes with such a wonderful community full of other very talented people who have been more than willing to answer my questions and help me along this journey. I try to do the same when newer photographers come to me for advice.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a wedding photographer in the North Georgia/Metro Atlanta area. I have specialized in couples since the beginning of my business, and I’ve now taken a leap into wedding photography, which I love so much.
I am most proud of starting my business and believing that it’s something I could actually do, despite my upbringing.
It’s one thing to take great pictures that a client will cherish for a lifetime, but I truly believe what sets me apart is the experience I provide to my clients. I understand that life happens, and it’s important to be kind and graceful.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
I think it’s important to understand that the unexpected can happen and turn your life upside down, but you just have to keep moving forward.
