Today we’d like to introduce you to Janey Bronson.
Janey, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I didn’t always know filmmaking was my passion. When I was in high school, I attended G.W. Carver School of the Arts, I knew I loved cameras, but I was unaware of the possibilities and job opportunities that can come with being a photographer.
Not until I learned about fashion photography, and that’s when I thought I figured it out. I thought my path was fashion photography, and that was my purpose. However, once I enrolled at Georgia State University and began to take film courses, that’s when my whole perspective changed and feel in love with filmmaking. I was intrigued by cinematography, camera movements, storytelling, dialogue, and the entire cinematic universe. It blew my mind, and from that moment on, I knew that I needed to create films. Since then, I’ve directed five short films and written eleven scripts. I’ve acted in three short films and participated in a Tyler Perry production. I’ve been a production assistant on three film sets, and I am also a winner of the AT&T Revolt Summit Creator Incubator with The Ghetto Film School. So, once I realized filmmaking was my passion and purpose, opportunities began to surface, and I’ve been living out my dreams ever since.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My journey has had its challenging moments where I’ve wanted to give up completely, but I’ve also had moments that were gratifying and truly rewarding. Honestly, my journey has been the best thing that could’ve ever happened to me. However, some things that I’ve struggled with is being patient with my process. I had to learn that success doesn’t happen overnight, and it takes hard work and discipline to get to where I want to be. So, just staying motivated and dedicated to my vision despite what may be going on around me has been one of my struggles. However, I also make sure I don’t overwhelm myself with my own thoughts and temporary emotions and remind myself I am on the right path, and everything will turn out okay.
A Janey Bronson Film Production – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the founder of Janey Bronson Presents, an independent film production company that specializes in capturing compelling stories of the Pan African community and presenting it to the masses in a relatable, unique, and creative way.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far was when I got chosen by AT&T and Ghetto Film School as a filmmaker to capture Sean “Diddy” Comb’s Revolt Summit event held here in Atlanta. I met and interviewed tons of local talent and celebrities such as Timberland, Swiss Beats, and The Dream. It was a fantastic experience because it allowed me to step out of my comfort zone of scripted filmmaking and try out documentary filming which I really enjoyed.
